I have been hooked on this series since The Quilter's Apprentice. This book goes back to previous years and I love seeing how some of the characters have developed since they were first mentioned in an earlier book.

I have read the complete Elm Creek Quilts series. The last one left me somewhat disappointed; however Chiaverini picks up her earlier style with Sonoma Rose. I loved this book. Other reviewers have criticized it because of some dark content (battered wife, alcoholism), but both subjects are approached with sensitivity and without prolonged, detailed descriptions. I cared about the family and their future as well as the other characters. Wonderful descriptions of the Sonoma Vally vineyards and happenings during Prohibition. However, I did feel the ending was a little rushed - would have liked her to flesh out the release of Rosa's husband from jail and his efforts to find his family. Maybe that's the next book????
