Tis book is one of my favorites. It is written with humor and compassion. The subject matter is adult and can be very depressing as it deals with horrific after effects of the Jewish Massacre of WW2. I consider it one of the finest books ever written on the subject.

This book is simply moving and much better than the movie and it really is a very good read. This book is very emotional and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

William Styron's most complex and ambitious novel. It is a thriller of the highest order.

Haunting and unforgettable. This is definitely not a happy story and it's not for those who are very sensitive. Sophie's Choice is incredibly sad. Her choice is heartbreaking. However, it's also a powerful story of love and loss. I don't see how one can read this book without being affected in some way. I tried imagining myself in the pivotal scene after Sophie disembarks from the train and is in line, and I can't begin to imagine what I would do. I hope I never do. It would kill me to have to make such a monumental decision.

Simply amazing.

Just as the holocaust was the ultimate example of cruelty that goes beyond imagining, this novel demonstrates the strength of the human spirit to survive despite having undergone the most vicious evil the world has ever known. The cruelty that Sophie has experienced is overwhelming in its magnitude, and her choice to live means a lifetime of self recrimination. Styron's own bouts with depression are obvious "drivers" of the plot and its characters. If you finish this book with your heart intact, read it again. There is indomitable strength and hope in Sophie that will make all of us re-examine our own darkest hours.

Styron's masterpiece. One of America's noted authors. The dilemma of choice between evil and evil. Much more character development than the movie.
