Fabulous book. Nothing serious, but *fun* to read and the mystery was an actual *mystery* rather than something one could figure out in the first five minutes. Highly recommended.

A really fun read - a set of letters between Kate and Cecilia, close friends and cousins, describing the mysteries swirling around them in Essex, where Cecy remains, and in London, where Kate has travelled with her older sister and aunt.

In Regency England, two young cousins making their debut might just find their true loves. But first, they must battle the forces of evil magic that imperil not only them, but their whole world ...
A completely charming book from start to finish, this is romantic, mystical, at times laugh-out-loud funny, and more than a little suspenseful.

I really enjoyed this book and the cute style of telling the story through the letters between these two girls. It had a perfect balance between intrigue, romance, magic and character development. This sweet, quick read would be great for young adults and well as older readers like me.

A Regency with magic. The first Regency I ever read and still one of my favorite books.

Light, fun, and entertaining. I can't wait to read the second one.
This was a pretty terrific young adults novel. It's a story of manners in the Jane Austen style, with lots of imagination, likeable characters and a nice sense of humour. I'd recommend it for pre-teens.

This is a delightful read! It takes place in 1817 in England. The story is told entirely in letters of correspondence between the two cousins, Kate (who is in London making her debut in society) and Cecy (who is in Essex). There is an afterword explaining the fun the two authors had writing letters as the characters to one another and how it grew and became a book. And wonderful characters they are! I found myself laughing out loud in places at their antics. There is humor, danger, magic, intrigue and the usual propriety and tea found in 19th century England. I will happily read the sequel, THE GRAND TOUR.
