This is an oral history. Included are interviews with a large number of participants in the Civil Rights battles in the Deep South. Very honest and very searing as you "listen" to them describe their experiences, how they were harrassed, intimidated, beaten and it almost gives you "a you were there feeling." Interviews with staunch segregationists are also included. The book gives you a new appreciation for what was endured by many and an appreciation of their accomplishments. I'm so glad I read it.
