I rate this book at two and a half stars. It's a decent mystery but the artifice of having Chet the dog misinterpret things gets old pretty quickly. I thought it was cute at first but its constant use got tiring and I tended to skip over those parts of the narrative.

I needed something lighter to read for my brain, and the Chet and Bernie mysteries are just delightful. Chet is a great narrator and gets into scrapes the average dog would never survive.

I loved this book. I mean what's not to like about a book where a dog is the narrator?
A great read, easy on the imagination (except when you forget the dog is narrating the book). Lots of accurate detail with an unpredictable ending.
On a side note: I bought the book thinking that my grandsons might like to read it and since it is written at a 10th grade level, some of the word and situations are definitely not suited for children under 18 years of age.

Another fun and exciting adventure for Chet and Bernie. This one with new experiences for the desert dog when they take a case that leads them to New Orleans.

I love the Chet and Bernie books. They are written from Chet's point of view, and he's the dog!
This is the sixth book in the series, and Bernie, a Private Investigator, has been hired by Frenchie Boutette, a criminal he and Chet had captured earlier. Frenchie's brother Ralph is missing, and Frenchie wants Bernie to find him.
Bernie takes the case and he and Chet have to go to Louisiana to search for Ralph. Turns out that the Boutettes are involved in a Hatfield/McCoy relationship with one of the town's other families, the Robideaus, and at first it seems that Ralph's disappearance is related to this rivalry. As Bernie digs deeper however, it seems that Ralph is the only intelligent member of the family and his disappearance seems to be tied to an apparent oil leakage and at least one murder.
Chet is a K-9 Academy drop-out, involved a small misunderstanding right before he graduated, so Bernie inherited him. He weighs over 100 pounds and is really a great dog. I really enjoy the way the author, Spencer Quinn, has him tell the story and inserts all of Chet's feelings and shows how easily dogs can be distracted.
If you enjoy a light read, with a bit of laugh out loud humor, I think you'd like these tales too!
