Trauma Nurse Amelia Winn loses her hearing when she is mowed down by a hit and run driver. Her injuries make her turn to drinking, which in turn makes her lose her job and her family. Now two years later, Amelia has a small house, a lead on a new job, and a service dog named Stitch. Relaxing on the river which runs near her home, Amelia discovers the body of a fellow nurse. When the police interview Amelia, she tells them that Gwen Locke was a friend when Amelia worked with her at the hospital, but they eventually lost touch. Now someone has murdered Gwen and Amelia feels she can help with the investigation.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Julia Whelan, who does an outstanding job with the narration. The story is told from Amelia's first-person point-of-view. We learned what Amelia goes through daily and how she copes with everyday life. I never thought about how hard it would be to call 911 and report a body if I couldn't hear what was being said on the other end of the line...or if it had even been answered.

Amelia is a sympathetic character who you must root for. Someone is trying to discredit her and screw up her life. There were a handful of suspects in the murder case that I kept going back and forth with. The story is fast-moving. I couldn't stop listening and had to see how it ended. My rating: 5 Stars.

This is the story of a young woman who loses her hearing because of an auto accident. She has a hearing dog who helps her and warns her of danger. It is a mystery with the dog helping her. Not a love story but there is some devotion in the book.
