This book filled me with a sense of wonder. A story of a woman's adjustment to a long and debilitating illness, a homage to the humble yet very complex snail, a spiritual journey into accepting and admiring the world as it is...this book is beautiful.

I devoured this book in one sitting, I really enjoyed it. The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating is both poetic and scientific. A wonderful read for anyone that appreciates nature.

This book is very well written in the sense that the author ties in her story with the snails. Then she also shares facts about the life of a snail. This is a short, easy read that is worth it.

Struck by an unnamed, debilitating illness, the author was helplessly bedridden for months. As a distraction, she kept a small woodland snail in a terrarium near her bed. She thought of it as her companion. She spent many countless hours observing its activities and habits. This is a very sweet story. It is also amazing in the amount of research that was done, and the little known facts told about this creature. In 1607, the Italian scholar Giovanni Francesco Angelita credits the snail "with inspiring everything spiral, from the invention of drill bits to Europe's most famous staircases." Gems like this lend to the enjoyment of the book. Very entertaining and informative - a delightful read! D.
