A psychological thriller. Two Manhattan prep school students make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation. But on one bitterly cold holiday weekend in an isolated cabin in Vermont, a horrifying twist develops in the plan. This novel travels through decades from New York to Vermont to California, showing the friendship between 2 very different women, the burden of carrying a secret, and the lies told to others & ourselves when the truth is too painful to accept.

Wow! I couldn't put this book down.

A psychological thriller full of secrets, lies and a manipulative villain. A quick read that kept me anxious for Carole's fate from beginning to end.

This book was a hard read, it is supposed to be a psychological thriller but I didn't really find anything thrilling about it. I only finished it because I can't stand not knowing, and hoping the book would improve. The main character starts off as 16 year old girl, Carole, who makes a pact with her best friend Naomie to loose her virginity during a school break holiday. Little did she know that there would be a horrible accident that leaves one woman dead, and two girls trying to keep a secret. The book follows Carole and Naomi's lives from youth to adulthood, from New York to California and Vermont. The main antagonist in this book is greasy and cruel, not the best choice for their pact. He keeps popping up in Carole's life no matter where she runs or hides. The ending was anticlimactic. Though there was depth to the characters the plotline was slow and boring. The book does draw some interesting thoughts to the psychology of lies, and the path life can lead from one incident.

I could not bear to put this book down. It was chilling, enthralling..... One of the best mystery/thrillers I've read in a long time.

The beginning was excellent - and while I did finish it the end portions left something to be desired. Great portrayal of a woman terrified by a secret, and a family torn apart by one mistake

The story captured my attention from the beginning. You feel as if you were a part of the era, growing up in the 1960s. The only negative I found with the book was it got a touch boring around the middle of the book. However, the ending proved to make this an excellent read for a novice author.

I was hoping for a little more from this book...maybe a better twist that I didn't see coming from the very beginning. I was a little disapointed there was not more suspense or twists. However, it kept my attention and I did somewhat enjoy it.

Hmmm, despite the great reviews, I didn't like it. I felt that there were a lot of details that were overlooked in the story line. It jumped all over the place at times. Very frustrating.

I love when you start reading a book and you feel as though you've stepped into the world of the characters lives in progress. That's how this was, the story line was one I'd never read before and it took you places that could not be guessed. A real adventure.
A teen girl's first experience with sex warped into a lifetime of secrets and shame.
Very worth reading.

I guess I'm just too used to reading True Crime and not fiction like this ..... so many coincidences just do not happen in one's life.

From the very beginning of this book, I could relate to the narator, Carol. One mistake on top of another, on top of another. Pretty soon, the pile of mistakes is so big, it seems you can never see the light again. The book was slow at times in the middle but by the end I couldn't read fast enough to see how it ended.

Interesting story, interesting characters, though about a quarter way through I had kind of figured out what was going on. I guess what you take away from this is not to lose your virginity to some guy you've never met. Should be required reading for all High School girls !!
