This was my first read by this author and it was quieter than I expected a spy novel to be. The characters were likable and it had me thinking about things I'd never considered before (Poland before WWII, disagreements within the French regime). The descriptions were vivid, but the ecstatic blurb quotes had me expecting something more.

Once you get past all of the German, Russian and Polish names, or at least keep them straight, this is an interesting piece of work. Europe just before WWII breaks out, as you read you actually feel sorry for the people, YOU know what's going to happen, but some of them are still holding out hope for no war. I think this is now a movie, on Amazon Prime-not sure if it will follow the story line well enough to watch. Anyway, a good story about Europe, especially Poland, before the war.
I thought this was a very good book. I wanted to keep reading the book. Good job on this one.

A good tale, but a sad one too, as you know what is coming for the people of Europe.
Particularly for those interested in the time leading up to World War II in Europe.
