Bittersweet book about second chances. Sydney loses everything after her husband's death when it comes to light that he had a gambling problem. She moves from New England to an island off the coast of Florida. There she finds new friends, a new career and herself. Adopted as an infant, she never knew her biological parents. All things are eventually revealed. Lovely! 4 stars

I found Spinning Forward to be an enjoyable read. I think knitters and spinners will find it especially enjoyable, but it's definitely not necessary to knit or spin to enjoy the book. The main character, Sydney, finds herself widowed from her long-time husband and finds that she didn't know him as well as she thought. This story chronicles Sydney's transition from wife to widow to self-actualized woman. The transition/growth theme is repeated numerous times in the book and there is also a recurring theme exploring relationships between mothers and daughters. I did, at times, find Sydney to be a bit annoying and over-reactive and I was a little uncomfortable with the mixture of feminism and new ageism, but all in all I did enjoy the book and intend to follow the series.

A nice easy read..the first in the Cedar Key series. I will definitely be reading all of them. The characters seem so real and the beautiful setting is wonderful. A little predictable, but still a good book.

This was my very first time reading this author, but it will definitely not be my last. I absolutely LOVED this book. The folks of Cedar Key are down-to-earth, quirky, and quickly found a place in my heart.

I can't wait to get my hands on the 2nd book, Casting About. I hope she continues this series, if so, I'll continue to read it.

Excellent first story in this series. I plan to read the sequel soon. Women's search for independent self, starting over family, friends, and small business.
