This is def. one of my fav. romance. Nice escape from the real world and opened up a whole new world of daydreams. :-) Wouldn't be giving it up except my "to read" pile has grown so much I havn't time for the "reread" pile.
"The Spirit Path" is a Historical Romance-meets-the-Present time travel. Madeline Baker weaves this story beautifully! It's about Shadow Hawk, a young Lakota spiritual leader of his People who goes on a vision quest that opens a portal and takes him on a time travel to meet Maggie, the beautiful woman in his dreams. Despite any odds, Shadow Hawk and Maggie discover a shared destiny and will conquer time itself to be together.
Shadow Hawk, medicine man of the Lakota, lives in the world of the 1860's, when the way of his people is still free and proud. He is content, except for longing for the Spirit Woman he has seen four times in his visions.
Maggie St. Clair lives in the present day. She is tied to a wheelchair by survivor's guilt and she hardly ever goes out. Her house is in the beautiful Black Hills, but her life is lonely and she never expects to find love. But her dreams are haunted by a magnificent warrior.
Only the strangest of fates can bring these two together to find the love they are meant to share. And even that love may not be strong enough to hold them together.
Can Hawk live in the modern world knowing things that might save his people if he returned? Or must Maggie choose Hawk and give up all she knows? Can she bear to return with him through time to the terrible events the Lakota will face as the while man moves into the Black Hills?
This is an excellent book with solid characters and some nice surprises.

Excellent, a great story, makes you wonder what if this could happen.
This is one of the first time travel romances I ever read and my FAVORITE. It is based in the Sturgis, South Dakota area. It is a very good read and one I would recommend to anyone that likes the "Old west" and especially the Black Hills area and Native American history.
