All I can say is this book was awesome! The characters are totally believeable and likeable. Maddie is faced with an unknown pregnancy, then her boyfriend dissapears. While on the hunt for her boyfriend, 2 dead bodies appear. Maddie contantly finds herself in odd situations, including dressing like a hooker, in a porn studio, and tangled up in the arms of LAPD's sexiest cop. I am proud to say I had the killer pegged, and i cant wait to read the book in this series. The plot was well written, and fast paced. If you like murder mysteries with lots of screwball characters, this is the book for you. It ranks right up there with Sarah Strohmeyers' Bubbles Yablonsky series!

Any fan of Stephanie Plum will feel right at home with Maddie Springer. She's in way over her head and can't seem to stop herself from getting in even deeper. She trips from one disaster to the next and pulls everyone around her along for the ride. I found myself snickering out loud more than once. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.

A faced paced read and a great mystery. A LA shoe designer turns into a wanna be mystery solver. Fast and funny.

Many other cozy mystery series have started out much better, grabbing my interest and holding my attention immediately. These series leave me eagerly anticipating the next book. I have several of the books in this series and though I don't usually buy ahead in a series I've never read, the titles drew me in. I was not expecting what I got with this story. Shoulda woulda coulda...rather than focus on what I thought the story was about, I will instead say that the heroine is a ditz. The typical blonde you always hear about who is several sandwiches short of a picnic. But somehow, you can't help but like her. I was quite annoyed that she obsessed about whether or not she was pregnant through most of the book, but didn't take a pregnancy test until near the end, after destroying a few of them. Maybe this aspect of her personality was supposed to be humorous, but I found it annoying.
Maddie also spends a large portion of the book eating. Everytime I turned around, she's stuffing her face on junk. Either at McDonalds or at Starbucks or some other fast food joint. At the rate she's going, there may need to be a segment of this series where she goes to Weight Watchers. How the hell she manages to earn a living designing shoes, much less solving any crimes is amazing considering the amount of time she spends hitting fast food drive through windows.
Maddie is a likeable character and Detective Ramirez is definitely a character most women would love to get to know. The supporting characters are interesting too. Now that I know that Maddie is not the kick-ass superhero heroine instead of the bubblehead she really is, I can read the next book in this series much more prepared.

This is the best new series I've read in a long time. I liked the characters very much and enjoyed several "laugh out loud" moments.

This books is poorly written. The characters are shallow and the heroine is (for lack of a better word) stupid. The plot is thin and the story line is not even believable.
It is an easy, thoughtless read. I won't be reading Book 2.

1st in series. Shoe designer, Maddie, decides to investigate after her missing boyfriend is implicated in murder.
Thought this was a little wordy in parts but a good read.
I only finished this book because I wanted to know "who done it". I really disliked almost all the characters in it, except sexy, smart Ramirez. The heroine is just unbelievably stupid, insipid and self-absorbed. Her besty, Dana is a total slut, and also unlikable, but far smarter than Maddie. How Maddie doesn't weigh 300 lbs is unbelievable as well, as every meal is fast food, Ben & Jerry's etc. She treats her mother terribly, forgetting every event for her wedding (has she heard of a planner or organizer on her phone maybe?!) and she also has no backbone. Her boyfriend embezzled $2million, lied that he's married, runs and hides, but she still goes to unbelievable lengths to prove his innocence?? Just because she MIGHT be preggers??? Then she refuses to take the damn pregnancy test till the last page, even jumping on one of them (idiot!). She should have been done with the cheating bastard, found out she's NOT pregnant, and jumped the sexy cop. That would have been much more believable - and likable. She could have solved the murder with him - or irritating him - not the readers at her stupidity. Ugh, I hated this shallow book and the way it was poorly written.
Maddie gets herself in trouble again.
