I should really remember how much I dislike short story collections. Nowadays, it seems that there ARE no "un-bizarre" short stories...is this a style requirement that I am unaware of? This was very tedious and I'm surprised I was able to finish it at all.

This has to be the most delicious book title I've ever seen! I had to have the book for the title alone. The stories within are not so much narratives with a beginning and an end as snapshots of small worlds teetering on the brink, about to collapse into chaos at any moment. The humor of the title is found in the odd situations with people, often children, just managing to cope. There are three stories in the book that will stay with me for a long time, including the title story.

excellent and inventive book of short stories. the author writes with a wit and precision that is rare in today's candy-book world. Russell is an immensely talented writer.

It would be easy to dismiss these tales in a pigeon-hole of surrealist magic or just plain strangeness, however the authority and beauty with which the author writes transcends a genre of any kind.

This is one of the best books that I have ever read.

I'm giving three stars for the writing talent. Ms. Russell has great talent and I'm sure we'll see more from her. However, these short stories were so weird ~ and depressing ~ that I couldn't finish the book. Wonderful stories for sci-fi/Potter fans.
