Another title for this book could be: "They did it their way". These ladies in the time period of the early 1900's up until the late 1930's were among American's pioneer homesteaders in states like Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. They proved to themselves and their families they had what it took to improve a piece a government land from 160 to 640 acres and live on it long enough to get a free title on it. Like many men, some didn't make it, but a lot of these ladies did. What surprised me was that some came from successful jobs working in offices in places like Chicago to dry desolate places in which they also found success. I believe hardworking successful people can find success where ever they are without government welfare. Maybe these women could withstand the solitude better than a lot of men. Reading this is like reading personal letters and journals which are first hand information which comes straight from the minds of those who actually did it. I found their personal info of their struggles and fun informative as well as enjoyable.
