Ms Flagg's characters are tied together through the life of a radio show from a small Southern town. The book opens in the 40's and continues through present day. Little mysteries wander through and finally come to light.

What a cute and heartwarming book. I am not quite old enough to remember the time frame for this story. I do remember the quaintness of the little town I grew up in and how everyone knew everyone and if you misbehaved, your parents knew it before you got home. A wonderful read for a front porch swing.

A really nice read. Great characters and a wonderful time period (mostly in the 40's & 50's). A sweet, easy, enjoyable read.

I loved this book. It is a nostalgic snapshot of smalltown American life in the 20th century. The book moves through the decades from the 40s to the 90s. The characters, from the youngest to the oldest, are charming and lovable. She really brings the characters to life, with all their quirks and eccentricities. And there are a lot of characters, all connected by friendship or family ties in this wonderful small town. And even though she jumps around from person to person, it never gets confusing, and you are treated to the type of relationships forged by close friends and family. There are moments that will make you laugh out loud, and moments that will touch your heart. It is, at times, poignant but not overly sweet. Following the families and friends as they grow up and grow older through the years is a treat. She brings most of the characters back in the sequel to this book, "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven". I can hardly wait to read that one!

This is one of Fannie's best, the other being 'A Redbird Christmas'. She is a spectacular storyteller, one of her gifts being elevating the ordinary. Her characters, some of whom are people that could be easy to discount, have dignity and humor.

A very slow read, but a great trip down memory lane if you grew up in the South. Many lovable characters.

Flagg shares vibrant colorful characters whose lives you will remember way after you have finished reading the book. She takes you back down memory lane and enchants you with people you could pick out from your own family tree. Short chapters, easy reading ... delightful!
If you've never read Fannie Flagg before, you're in for a treat! Nostalgic look at life in the U.S. in the postwar years after World War II. Zany and intriguing, just try not to laugh....

Fannie Flagg writes her Elmwood Springs stories giving the reader a comfortable feeling as if we could get in our car and go visit these characters who have become our neighbors.
Written with her signature brand of humor. This book just gave me the desire to continue getting to know everyone who lives in this quaint little community. Thus series of books is a must read for anyone who needs a good quick read leaving you feeling welcome and part of a small town . I love reading these books.
