Delaney was one of the first Science Fiction authors to openly explore Gay themes in his works. At a time when the Gay community didn't have mainstreaming like "Will and Grace", or "Rent", Delaney was turning out spectactular works of fiction that helped kick the doors off all sorts of societal "taboos". If you haven't read Delaney, then your science fiction education has a gaping black hole in it. There is no better way to fill it than with this novel.
