Two islands of the coast of Maine. A great story about a very different lifestyle. I injoyed this book very much.

I thought her writing was terrible in this book. She writes better with the diary-style as in Eat, Pray, Love. All the characters felt undeveloped and silly. This was her first novel and it reads like it.

After reading "Eat, Pray, Love," I vowed never to read another Elizabeth Gilbert book. But my book group chose this, and I stalled, but I read it. It was a fun, quick read, and I enjoyed it. There are some spots where I laughed out loud at the main character's snarky dialogue. The book is a pretty vivid picture of life on this tiny island off the coast of Maine, and a lot of the characters are well-developed enough for me to wish I could read more about them.

So, I guess my bottom line is: Don't judge a novel by its author's memoir?

I really enjoyed this book. Great story telling, it kept my interest throughout the entire book. I was saddened that it had to come to an end.

Well-written story about life on a small island where the way of life is simple and confining to someone who sees herself as more than a wife of a fisherman.

This is such an amazing book. My teacher recommended it and upon reading the storyline it seemed like something I wouldnt be interested in. (lobstermen??) But im glad i listened to her. The prologue starts out a little boring but once you get into it the story is very well written and the heroine of the novel, Ruth, is incredibly developed. She is feisty and smart and extremely entertaining. Great read, 5 stars.
