I enjoyed the first three books in this series much more than this fourth installment. The plot drags a bit, and the characters don't grow and develop as they did in the first three books. It's okay, but a bit of a disappointment compared to its prequels.

First let me say I love this series. However, this book was BORING. I found myself not caring who did it and simply reading pages to get it over with. I did finish it simply to keep up with the characters as I'm hoping the next one will live back up to its predecessors. If you're following the series you need to read it, but if you've never read this series, don't start with this one.

I see 2 reviewers didnt care for this book 4 in the series. Odd, cause I really liked this book. We got to know two of the lesser featured characters. Gillian is the suspect in this book and we learn so much about this zen lady. Bennett, the African American Postal worker who is studying up to be on Jeopardy. This all centers around a huge Hog festival in a nearby town. We learn a great deal about BBQing meats. I also liked that there is a hometown mystery brewing at the library on Friday night. None of this was really obvious to me, as the answers came out to wrap it all up. There was a Queen Sow pageant, and a blueberry pie eating contest, on top of the BBQ contest. Everything tied up in the end and everyone seemed to be finding a new direction for their lives. I loved it. Off to read book 5.

Love this series, the whole concept is a bit unique, and James as the main character, is interesting, unpretentious, and I like the twist of including James' dad and their home together. The whole crew is again, involved in a mystery here, and who doesn't love BBQ? It is not quite up to what the other books were, but I still enjoyed it. I found it a bit alarming that they all were off the diet bandwagon quite a bit in this one. but on the other hand, don't we all do that? All characters in this series are unique, quirky, and a refreshing different road of personalities than many other cozy series. All in all, another good installment of the supper club group.
