After adamantly insisting that I cannot possibly read a series book out of order I picked up this little ditty by Sparks before the other 2. Now why would I do that? Well, chalk it up to being stuck at work for over 24 hours in the middle of a snow storm and a serious lack of reading material.
Knowing this was not the first in the series I did have my reservations that I would not be privy to some inside information about common characters or plot lines but I was pleasantly surprised that I followed along easily and more then willingly.
This book brought together my first love (paranormal romance) along with my other first love (men in kilts) in a wonderful combo. Emma is a totally kick major buttocks gal who hates vampires with a passion and believes that the only good blood sucker is a dead one. Until of course she meets Angus MacKay, a completely buff gorgeous speciman of kilt wearing manliness who just happens to be a vampire...who, after a little oogling she tries to steak.
Now Angus is just trying to do his job, which happens to be to keep the spitfire Emma alive. Emma, you see, is a vampire hunter and a human one at that. Completely unheard of if you ask Angus or any of his vampire kin. But try convincing Emma of that.
Now if this wasn't a headache and a half for Angus already...just throw in an evil leader of the baddies, gunning for his and Emma's heads, along with Emma's boss who firmly believes that Angus and his kin have brainwashed his daughter, and the threat of an upcoming war between the good vamps and the evil Malcontents and you have yourself a very good book. One that will stand alone even being part of a series.
Besides who can resist a Scottish vampire who has to check his...uhem....package after teleporting to make sure it arrived with the rest of him.

Third in Sparks' series about vampires and mortals. This time Angus MacKay and Emma Wallace take a turn. From the 493 year old vampire who checks under his kilt everytime he teleports to the vengeful, slightly confused vampire slayer - this book is excellent, especially if you read "How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire" and "Vamps in the City" first.

The 3rd in the LOVE AT STAKES series. Each one gets better. I really enjoyed Angus. Who doesn't love a man in a kilt?

This was such a cool book. I was expecting this heroine to make a reappearance and wasn't disappointed with the plot or the laughs. Sparks is great at writing the humorous vamp-lite, so if you're into that kind of thing, I suggest checking out this series!

A rather obvious "rip off" (tribute might be the better word)of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in my opinion, but a lot of fun. Emma is a vampire slayer intent on killing all vampires since vampires killed her parents. Then she meets handsome Angus MacKay, a vampire.

I bought this book on a fluke, and really enjoyed it. It is chick lit meets vampire fantasy books. If you love books where the hero is tall, dark, handsome, and mysterious, you will enjoy this one.

This wasn't the best vampire love story but it did pass the time away. The book just seem to be lacking something. This is certainly not a book I would read again.

Very good vampire book. Light reading, very funny but romantic at the same time. Can't wait to get the others in the series. I usually read The Dak Hunter type vampires but these are very good too.

I love this series by Sparks. It's easy to fall in love with Angus, and the author refrains from making the heroine too annoying, which oft seems the case sometimes. Her heroes are not too tortured either. She finds a nice balance. This one also had me laughing out loud during a few scenes. I highly recommend these!
this is a great series! funny and you get pulled into all the characters.

This series is mostly based on CIA man Sean Whelan's attempts to rescue his daughter from the vampires. What he refuses to believe is that she is there willingly. All his efforts do is distract the good vampires from their war with the Malcontents (the bad guys). In this installment, vampire slayer and CIA operative, Emma Wallace gets herself into trouble with Angus McKay (one of the good guys). Angus spends most of the book trying to convince Emma to stop before the Malcontents kill her and trying to seduce her. When the Malcontents succeed in kidnapping both of them, they each realize love is in the air.
A thoroughly enjoyable read with bouts of humorous dialogue and men in kilts.

Action packed romance with alot of adventure. Good addition to the series
Excellent book! You must read How to Marry a Millionare Vampire and Vamps in the City before reading this book. From the word go this takes you on a wild adventure of how a mortal vampire slayer from teh "stake out" team wins the heart of Angus a 500 year old vampire.

Emma Wallace, a member of the CIA's stake-out team, spends her free time trolling Central Park for vampires. Since her parents were killed by the undead several years ago, Emma has believed the only good vampire is a dead vampire. Scottish Vampire Angus MacKay has been asked by his boss to find the vampire-slayer and stop him before a war breaks out. Angus is shocked to find out that the slayer is a human woman. He is even more shocked to find out he is attracted to her. Now he has to convince Emma that there are some good vampires out there, and he is one of them.
This is a fast-moving, witty addition to Kerrelyn Sparks' Love at Stake series. While trying to convince Emma to stop hunting vamps, Angus and Emma are both being hunted by Angus' ex-girlfriend and her group of evil vampires. If you like light, paranormal romance, this series is a good one. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

This book is by far the best in the series up to this point. A handsome man in a kilt and a warrior woman, what's not to love?

"It's no a purse!"
The third entry in Sparks's contemporary vampire series, following the kicky Vamps and the City, raises the stakes--in more way than one--as a vampire hunter unwittingly pushes the vamp underworld to the verge of war. CIA "Stake-Out" agent Emma Watson takes her job personally, having lost her parents to vampires six years earlier. Ambushing vamps in New York City's Central Park, Emma neither suspects nor particularly cares that there are, in fact, two vampire factions: one evil, bent on destroying humanity, and the other good, having eschewed people blood for a synthetic substitute. One of the good guys, Scottish vamp Angus McKay, has been assigned to stop her nightly patrols, but instead finds himself falling in love. Soon Emma's deep-rooted beliefs are coming unmoored: undeniably attracted to Angus, she can't bear the thought of loving--or even trusting--a vampire, but she's left without a choice when Angus's ex-lover decides to capture them both as a gift to her evil overlord

3rd in the series and I really enjoyed it though I hated the drama towards the end and was really ticked at the woman for causing it. The couple are well matched and Angus was one of my faves in the first 2 books and I'm glad he gets his HEA. There's more killing/torture in this one that the previous 2 books though overall not bad esp compared to some vampire books!
Summary: If it was still beating. Angus MacKay has been undead for almost five hundred years and it's not often something, or someone, surprises him. Until Emma Wallace. The sight of this luscious agent from the CIA's elite Stake-Out team was enough to stop Angus in his tracks. But then he discovers that she's a vampire slayer, intent on killing the "monsters" who killed her parents. And it's Angus's job to stop her.The only good vampire is a dead vampire. It's been Emma's motto since she committed her life to the destruction of these things. Now Angus MacKay wants to convince her differently.Sure, he's a sexy Highland warrior who seems to have stepped off the cover of a romance novel, complete with brogue, kilt, and sword, but he's also one of them. And it's her job to kill him.The war is on, but will it end in the destruction of one or both of them . . . or in total surrender to a passion for the ages?
I am seriously loving these kilted vampires...and an accent always does me in. Whew. I really enjoyed reading the banter between the Emma and Angus...both characters are smart as well as kick a**. This is the third book in the Love at Stake series and I have to say they keep getting better with each addition. There was a lot of action (both butt-kicking and steamy) in this book and I was glad for it, and hope that stupid hard-headed Sean is finally maybe coming around. Anyway, I am glad that there was a ton of butt-kicking action in this book and I am eager to see what goes down with the Russian coven in the next book as well, the evil jerks. The plot was strong, lots of good guys and bad guys, we finally meet the infamous Casimir. I am also super glad that Emma made the decision she did at the end...I wouldn't want it any other way for her. The only question left is...how long before Connor is up on the chopping block?
