The first Luanne Rice novel I've read {Silver Bells, a much more simple book, was the second}. Stone Heart blew me away. A very intense novel, with wonderfully complex characters and an emotional and disturbing plot. Truly can't say enough good things abt this book, which is why I gave it 5 stars. Just read it!

This author writes poignantly of human emotions. The book makes many important points about human behavior not the least of which is the power of words. The topic of abuse, whether physical or emotional, is never a pleasant one to read about. But presented the way this author does it becomes a moving experience, and educational as well.
One of the best Luanne Rice novels I've read!
Wow. This one grabs you and keeps you! Surprises around every corner. I really enjoyed it.
A touching story. Surprising and gripping.
A story with surprising twists.
What an awesome book. I was looking through my book shelf a couple days ago - so many books, so little time - when I happened upon this book. I thought this would be a quick easy read, or even a book I would start and abandon for lack of interest. Neither proved to be true.
Luanne Rice brought the New England family at the heart of this story so vividly to life and the bar of suspense just high enough, that all other reading was shoved aside in favor of this book. The beauty of this story of family secrets and tragedies is that, once you think you have it figured out, Rice throws yet another surprise in. It is told mostly from the main character Maria's point of view, but it is lightly interspersed with first person point of view narrative from her sister Sophie.
This is a well-written, literary novel that kept me turning the pages even after my eyes began to blur from the eye strain of reading continuously for hours. An excellent story, told in heartbreaking detail that will stay with me for many days to come.

An excellent read....suspensful, romantic and just wonderful. Cannot put this book down!
It was a really good book to read. One of my favorite books by Luanne Rice. Everyone should read this book
A little darker than most of Luanne Rice's books, but one you won't soon forget. Wonderful story that will touch your heart.
Luanne Rice has done it again. I am such a fan of hers. This is such a engrossing book. It's about he different layers of families, and also about abuse. Just when you think you have some of it figured out, you find out its not what you thought it would be. Very well written and definately worth the read!!!!!!!!!!!
A highly suspenseful, multilayered novel about the complex subtleties that lie beneath the surface of a family.
A real page turner. One of my favorite authors!
Entertaining. It's been a long time since I read it so I don't remember it well!
