Rita Lazarus and Peter Decker are as usual a good match and work together to solve mysteries. They have been book friends of mine for some time.

Another good book in the Peter Decker series where he is called to NY to help his biological family at a time when a distant relative is murdered and his niece is missing. After awhile Peter finds out he is brought in for 'window dressing' and another of his relatives is actually guilty.

one dead, one missing and on that can't look away. Although she isn't up to her husband's caliber, Faye writes a good mystery

In LA, Lt. Peter Decker gets a frantic phone call from his family. A distant relative has been found naked and murdered in a seedy Manhattan hotel room and the man's niece, the last person who may have seen the victim alive, has disappeared. Crazed with worry, the girl's parents plead for Decker's help and soon he's racing across the continent to a city he hasn't seen in ten years. With few leads and less time, he plunged into New York's underbelly, a world where vile deeds, unregenerate evil, and sinister secrets pit brother against brother. And where Decker will question the very essence of his faith and fight for everything and everyone he holds dear-including his wife, Rina.

A Peter/Rina book where he is once again involved with his "half" family in New York. We read more about characters that we met in prior books including some that we met in LA. I love series books where you know the characters.

Faye Kellermas writes a series about a Los Angeles Police detective Peter Decker. In this book, Peter Decker is working a case involving the murder of a distant relative. He gets involved in the case when the girl's parents ask him to help find their daughter's murderer. His investigation takes him to New York City where his wife's Orthodox Jewish family lives.
Faye Kellerman takes murder mysteries and puts a human touch to them. Peter Decker is a man who converted to Orthodox Judaism upon meeting his future wife, and the interaction of his faith with his police work gives a different and somehow more hopeful twist to the otherwise seamy details of a police detective's work.

I had never read one of hers before this book, and I wasn't really impressed with it. I guess I should stick to her husband's books.

A brutal homicide three thousand miles away has just shattered the tranquility of Lt. Peter Decker's household. The frantic phone call sends him and his wife, Rina, on a plane east to the home of Decker's half-brother, a rabbi whose brother-in-law's naked body was found in a sleazy Manhattan hotel room. Even more disturbing; the dead man's fifteen-year-old niece - and possibly the last person to see him alive - has disappeared, leaving her family crazed with worry about her safety.
The shocking crime propels Decker onto the streets of a city he hasn't walked in ten years, into an alien environment where his resources quickly run dry and the desperate hours pass without results. With little recourse, Decker is forced into New York's underbelly, seeking help from amoral souls who consider life as expendable as pocket change.
Obsessed with his mission to find the girl, Decker follows a labyrinthine trail of cover-ups and lies, of vile deeds and sinister secrets that pit brother against brother. Soon he's questioning the very essence of his faith, battling an unregenerate evil that threatens everything he holds dear - including Rina.

While the book and story line itself were good the language being Jewish in terminology made this book more difficult for me to grasp and get immersed in easily. So if that type of thing does not bother you it is a good plot and story line just not an easy read for me personally.

A 2002 entry to the Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus series that starts off slow but picks up steam. The last 50 pages are fantastic.

This IS a hardcover.
