This is the first Margaret Maron book I've read, but it certainly won't be the last! I was drawn into the story very quickly, and hated to see it end!

7th in the series. Lightweight mystery with an obvious murderer, plus lots of the family entanglements and local color that Maron is so good at describing. Aside from Deborah Knott, the storm is the best character in the book - not that the rest are bad, but there's not much there. Knott's cousin Reid is once again a suspect, by now that guy ought to be keeping a video diary of everywhere he goes just for alibis. It won't be a spoiler to say he didn't do it. I knew the murderer pretty much right away but (no spoilers) considering the information we're given in the prologue, I couldn't figure out how the scenario came into being. Loved the very small moonshine sub-plot. A nice comfortable entry in the series even if not the most memorable.

This is one of Maron's earlier book in the Deborah Knott series. She has a lot of interesting characters and the story has some twists and turns. Her North Carolina roots add a lot of local flavor to the book. If you are looking for a good clean read, start reading this series. I've read them out of order and had no problems keeping thing straight.

I am a M. Moran fan! As a N.Carolinian I can relate to the area she is talking about and have been in all those towns. For the outsider you may form your own opinion but the book reads easy and tells a good story. It has "real" characters who fit into people that I know that are similar. Worth your time.

This entire series of Judge Deborah Knott by Margaret Maron is an absolutely joy to read.
The characters are well thought out and explained and continued throughout the series.
The locations and situations are wonderful too - even with the 'journalistic license' taken.
One feels you know the places, folks, taste the food, experience the wonderful place that is
North Carolina. I simply just loved it and could not wait to read on and on.
