This is a great book when you need a laugh.

I have read 3 Hiaasen novels now and all three seem to follow the same themes, characterizations and plot lines.
This was my least favorite of the three. I would recommend Skinny Dip rather than this offering.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have all of Mr. Hiaasen's books. Always witty and fast paced, with twists of plot. A really entertaining writer.
My first Carl Hiaasen novel! Hysterically funny. Escaped animals, con artist, generally odd people & the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew
In STORMY WEATHER, Hiaasen satirizes what happens after a Florida hurricane. The story focuses on the shoddy construction that occurred before the storm, the payoffs that resulted in the poor construction, greedy would-be construction workers and roofers trying to take advantage of the devastation, and schemes to defraud the insurance companies after the storm. The story, as usual, includes some very demented characters who try to make a killing on the destruction caused by the storm. This includes a beautiful young woman who was in Florida to try to seduce one of the Kennedys and winds up partnering with an ex-con named Snapper to try and fleece a homeowner hit by the hurricane. Snapper is called that because of his shocking appearance including a dislocated jaw. Other characters include Avila, a building inspector who didn't really inspect the houses and trailers that were destroyed during the storm and who performs blood sacrifices to help his cause; a young newlywed couple who were honeymooning at Disneyworld but after the storm the husband decides to rush south to capture the devastation on video; a man who owns a wild animal preserve that also has a collection of skulls that he likes to juggle; and of course Skink, the ex-governor of Florida who lives in the wilderness and was hoping the hurricane would be more devastating and was not thrilled with the young husband taking video of its aftermath. Skink is a recurring character in several of Hiaasen's works and is one of my favorites.
Carl Hiaasen has been one of my favorite authors for the past couple of decades. I always enjoy his humorous romps through South Florida and his cast of the wacky denizens living there. STORMY WEATHER was another enjoyable romp but unfortunately, after reading this one I only have a couple of his adult novels left to read. Maybe I'll put them off for a while to have something to look forward to.

Up to Carl's usual standard. He weaves a good tale. I could stand a little less whining about south Florida politics, but that is his world.
Typical Carl Hiaasen. Set in the Everglades, with a cast of very zany characters. I always get sucked into his books, even as I sometimes wonder "why am I reading this"? However, it is a laugh-out-loud book, one you can pick up and put down.
Really loved this one. The focus on environmental issues is sideways to the main theme, which is corruption leading to unsafe buildings. But of course the enviros save the day & the bad guys get stomped on my Mother Nature.
Another entertaining book by Carl Hiaasen. Love his eclectic characters and how he twists the plots together. A great peak into a world of lifestyles that I'm sure really do occur in real life.
I love books by this author, and this one was no exception. It was an especially nice surprise to be introduced the the character "The Captain", as he shows up in another book, Skinny Dip. As usual, Hiaasen brings together seemingly unrelated characters whose only thing in common seems to be the tremendous hurricane that hits Florida, putting into motion a series of events that are all eventually tied up nicely at the end. If you enjoy a good storyline with lots of action, some quirky humor, and characters that you can relate to, I would definitely recommend this book!!
Living in Florida, working at a theme park, Carl's work hits home for me. I love his humor, a little trashy in all the right places, definitely "R" rated. Great departure..
It is always fun to read a Carl Hiaasen book... characters you love to hate; clever but not silly; hilarious escapades and insightful excursions to Florida's seamier side.
As usual Carl Hiaasen has written one of his "sick" novels. Honeymooners, con artists, vipers, monkeys, a mobile home salesman, and a law school dropout......and of course, the Florida Keys! Go Carl!!!!
Hilarious! I was giggling the whole way through. Hiaasen at his best.
My first Carl Hiaasen book. Its really fun.
I always laugh when I see reviews from people who don't like Carl Hiaasen books, because he's one of my favorites! I wish he'd write more books, because I've read them all...
It's a Carl Hiassen - need I say more?
Funny and very quirky. I've read several of Hiaasen's books, but I've discovered he is an acquired taste.
very unique funny mystery
funny, interesting
Light and entertaining. Just what I needed after going through the last two years of hurricanes in Florida!
Carl Hiaasen is hilarious. This is one of his typical mixes of thriller and humor.
A vintage Hiaasen, full of outrageous people and events. A must-read for Hiaasen fans.
Carl Hiaasen has a perfectly, twisted sense of humor that is such fun to watch unravel! This book is no exception! ENJOY!
Love Carl Hiaasen. Very funny books mixed with serious matters. Characters are unforgetable.
What could be more fun than jaunt with Carl Hiassen?
Carl Hiaasen writes another offbeat story of odd people, hurricane destruction and how it really works. A fascinating story with fascinating charactors woven through it.
Entertaining, funny, light read
Skink rules!
Carl Hiassen is the master of black humor. With the backdrop of the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew in Florida, you never know what the zany characters are going to do next!
A great fast read.
A law school dropout will be chasing one Gaboon viper; a troop of storn-shocked monkeys and a newfound love life, while tourists by the thousands bail from the Florida Keys. We're now entering the hurricane zone, where hell and hilarity rule. In the hands of masterful, merciless Carl Hiaasen, we're going to have some weather!
I don't care for this author.
I found myself laughing through the entire book. Strongly recommended.
