The John Rebus series by Ian Rankin is one of my favorite detective series, and I eagerly await any new novel in the series.
When respected MP Gregor Jack is caught in a police raid on an Edinburgh brothel and his flamboyant wife Elizabeth suddenly disappears, John Rebus smells a setup.
Rebus is not yet fully developed in this book, and Siobhan Clarke isn't on the scene, but it is still a good read.
Ian Rankin's John Rebus series just keep getting better. This one mixes Edinburgh politics with local prostitues and a media circus ensues. In the midst of the puzzle and mayhem is the roguishly wonderful John Rebus. You'll want to read right through to the end in one sitting.
Rebus' character is not a glossy romantic invention. He is real. He has real flaws and problems of his own making. He is also a tenacious detective and I love the way his mind works, until the case unfolds and the culprit is found.
