When Storme Montague's father and brother are killed by the Breeds, her father's research is also destroyed--except for a crucial data chip that both the Council and the Breeds would kill to possess. Betrayed to the Council, she is rescued by Styx, a Wolf Breed who is different from most other Breeds she has ever known. Storme has something he wants too--but it's not a data chip.

There's never been a woman who bad boy Styx couldn't seduce. But can the charmer of the Wolf Breed charm the enemy?

Or has the enemy come up with a plan of her own? A plan that could destroy the tentative balance the Breeds have created in society and among their allies--and that may ultimately destroy them both.....

Storme is not a likable character, understandably so given her history. But her prejudice and hatred bogs the book down for to long. Storme had a lot of baggage to overcome before she gives in to Styx. I like Styx, but his character was not developed enough for me and there was very little action until the last portion of the book. I hate to say the book was boring, because I really love the Breeds, but it wasn't the most thrilling installment of the series. The main plot moves forward somewhat, and Cassie gives a couple of hints into the upcoming Navarro story. Overall, not bad, but not the best. I think I like the Feline Breeds better....

Styx and Storms story is filled with angst, frustration, fear and of course breed sex. While I love all Breed storied this is not my favorite, Storms continued insults to the breeds irritated me and I found myself at times rolling my eyes. But in the end of course she gets herself together and realizes the good of the Haven breeds and of course finally accepts Styx. This story also introduced Navarro who will be the focus of the next installment, which of course I will rush out and buy like I do all Breed books. Even though not my fav of the Breed stories this one is still a keeper so will be on my personal shelf for a long time. Recommend to all Breed story lovers!

This is never going to be a favorite Breed story for me. To me at least the heroine is the poster child for 'there are none so blind as those who will not see'. Sure she had issues - but she held onto them like a three year old with a favored toy...

Plot-wise, Storme is holding information that the Breeds, and especially Jonas, need. Then there's Styx and Storme's relationship and [yet another] kink appears in the mating heat problem.

It could be read as a stand-alone but the story really starts in Lion's Heat. Navarro [hero of the next book] is introduced here.

This is an ok Breeds story from Lora Leigh. Not one of her best efforts in my opinion. I'm glad I read this at the bookstore rather than getting it for myself. The story has the typical plot device of the heroine who refuses to believe she's meant to be with a Breed. Honestly what I wouldn't give to have a Breeds book where the heroine says right off the bat "You're my mate? That's great!"

The heroine, Storme, is quite an unlikable character. She whines far too often. She keeps insisting that Breeds are all bad. Her negative attitude bogs down the book for too long. It was believable in the beginning of the story, but she continues to keep it up for so long that the plot slows down because of her angst. It's no fun to read chapter after chapter where she insults and mocks the Breeds who are taking care of her. Styx is fine as the alpha wolf Breed, but I didn't get a good sense of his character. He's at least not irritating like Storme. He's not my favorite alpha male (that would be Mercury and Tanner). I wasn't sure what to make of his Scottish brogue that comes and goes.

Overall, if you like the Wolf Breed books, you'll want to read this one, but if you're a fan of the Feline Breeds books like me, you might not like this one as much. There are better Feline Breeds books like Tanner's Scheme, Mercury's War, and Dawn's Awakening.

Disappointing! I was so looking forward to reading this book as I am a big LL fan and love her breed series. However, Styx and Storme's story was just horribly put together. First, she made Storme so unlikeable, it was hard for me to empathize with her. One moment she's spewing racist bigotry, fear and anger and then the next moment she's kissing and having sex with Styx (who represents all that she hates and despises). Styx's character was so underdeveloped as to be a joke. And why does he switch back and forth with his Scottish brogue??!! I literally skipped paragraphs in this book. Where normally I read an LL book within 24 hours, I had to force myself to get through this book over an entire week.I'm so glad I didn't purchase it. Thank God for PBS.
