Nice story about Ford (Brooke's BFF) and Victoria (new to series). Ford is an investigative reporter that grew up with an alcoholic father. His father just died. He also likes the ladies (a lot) and isn't interested in anything long term (ever). He has Issues. Victoria is a successful divorce attorney who owns her own practice. She also has relationship issues. Mainly because she is a product of divorce that lead to her mother doing something.
After events bring them together, they go from being enemies (kinda) to friends with benefits. Of course, pesky feelings develop and they both fight it/deny it. Got to hand it to Victoria. She tells it like it is and takes no bullshit. I also liked that she was going to therapy for help in dealing with some things from her childhood. I also liked the end. Overall, this has good, strong characters (even if you wanted to slap them at times).

Ford Dixon clashes with his new neighbor, Family Attorney Victoria Slade, as soon as she moves into the apartment next door. She tries to keep her distance from him, but when she finds Ford's younger sister crying in the hallway, she steps in to help her. Nicole Dixon has a four week old baby as a result of a one-night stand. She wants to find the father and Victoria has the means to help her. Ford also wants to help Nicole find the baby's father. He and Victoria become reluctant partners as they play private detective.
This book is part of Julie James FBI/U.S. Attorney series. It's a solid contemporary romance, but lacks this author's usual humor. The romance itself had no surprises. The best part of the book was the quest to find the baby's father. I liked how that part of the story was resolved. My rating: 4 Stars.
