This book is historical fiction set in Moorish Spain. I don't know about the historical accuracy of the book, but as a story, it was a very enjoyable book! The palace intrigues and dealings were interesting. Even more interesting was the role of women in the community - the stated role was of meek followers of and subservient to the men. Actually, the women were equal participants in all activities and in the shaping of history.

My only concern about the book was that the middle section seemed a little long started to feel the same - treaty made, treaty broken, war, etc. Fortunately, the story and the main character held enough interest to overcome that minor issue. I could look up the history, but I think I will leave this book as an enjoyable story. I look forward to reading the sequel.
