At first I was hesitant to read this book because I had tried to read a Hilderbrand book before and couldn't finish it, but I wanted to give this author another try. Boy am I glad I did. I started reading A Summer Affair and couldn't put it down. I loved the characters in the book and found myself really liking some and really not liking others. I felt like I was at the Summer Gala concert myself! An excellent summer read!

This was my least favorite of the Hilderbrand novels. The characters were annoying and self absorbed. I had to struggle through it. The ending just abruptly came with lots of unanswered questions. It was as though she just ran out of steam at the end. Very disappointing.

This is a great beach book. Would I say it's award winning...nah...but I enjoyed it enough to keep reading and you definitely got wrapped up in the characters once you started into it. It's perfect for a sunny day at the beach and some mindless reading of a decent story. I'm not waiting for the movie!

I really like Elin Hilderbrand, but this book was not good. Normally every book I've read by her is 4 stars at least. This is the exception.

I really can not understand how this author is considered an award winning writer. I think this book was too wordy, she just goes into too much detail about each character.

i guess i've been reading a lot more memoirs lately, but i wasn't so enthusiastic about an affair. I was more into her relationship with the high school sweetheart, and current husband. i did finished and will most likely attemmpt Barefoot since I already have it and hope for something alittle better...to keep me interested in this author. enjoy!!

I liked this book. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it because of the title. I am so tired of all the celebrity affairs we are reading about that I almost passed on the book but I do enjoy Elin Hilderbrand's books. This author has a unique writing style. Her books always seem to leave me wanting more. I am never sorry that I read her books, I just want them to end differently not that the endings are ever bad. It is so hard to explain and this book is no different. Read the book and see what you think. I recommend this author and this book.

The basic premise of this book was fairly good, but the character development was just lacking. I never quite understood why Clair had this affair, especially with Lock. But beyond that it's a tale to be read while on the beach with an ice tea in hand.

OH -- and one other thing that really bothered me. Really a sit down dinner for 1,000 that was pulled off with a handfull of cooks? I don't think so.

Ok what can I say...first of all I hate romance novels as they are all the same, but this one was not what I had imagined. I went into a used book store and bought this book along with about 100 others. I was only looking at the covers and it said it was a national bestseller. I bought this book because of that alone. I figured it was a national bestseller so it must be pretty good. So we were camping and I have all these books in my RV, so I just told myself the first one I pull out I'll read. This is the book I grabbed. At first I was like omg I bought a romance novel! I am not one to stop reading a book....I always have to finish what I started. Then I couldn't put it down. It was a good read. I'm glad I picked it up. Nice change of pace from the books I normally read. Give this book a try. You might just like it.

Even though I wasn't crazy about the title I decided to give this a try since I wasn't reading anything else. For some reason I couldn't put this book down even though I didn't agree with what was going on. I felt bad for the husband and for the wife and thought lockhart was a creep, but for some reason understood their connection. This was a good book and I hope her others books are just as good.

Thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining story. The characters are real and the plotline moves along, although sometimes I became annoyed with the main character getting herself deeper and deeper into trouble. But all in all, a good ending.

This is my least favorite of all of Elin Hilderbrand's books. I have never seen a more annoying main character - very self-absorbed and just not likable. So many loose strings at the end. I was glad when it ended. I never did find myself rooting for anyone.

I like this book all the way up to the ending and I did not like the ending . I felt it still left some important things with a alot of the Characters. I hate when a book has a great plot but the ending sucks.

I thought this one was a little slow going in and I still had questions at the end, but it's a good beach/pool read. Just don't expect too much!

Claire wants it all - & the eyes of her freinds, she has it; a devoted husband, 4 beautiful children, even a successful career as an artist.

But when serving as cochair of Nantucket's social event of the yr propels Claire into the orbit of billionaire Lock Dixon, unexpected sparks begin to fly. Lock insists on working closely with her - often over a bottle of wine - & before long Claire can't ignore the subtle touches & lingering looks. To her surprise, she can't ignore how they make her feel, either.

A Summer Affair captures the love, loss & limbo of illicet romance & unchedked passion as it takes us on a brave & breathless journey into the heart of one modern woman.
