I picked up this book because of the interesting title and I wanted something light to read poolside. I was pleasantly surprised that this wasn't just fluff, but rather an interesting and well written coming-of-age story. I could relate to the narrator and the rather realistic characters. Growing up isn't easy for anyone, even when you seemingly have it all.
This was a lovely coming-of-age story that takes place during the summer in the life of a 14 year-old girl. I was truly reminded of my teen years and all of the emotions I had felt back then as Jamie struggles with relationships with friends, boys and family members. It is a little gem of a novel.
Coming-of-age story set in the early 70's. Definitely lit-lite.
This is a great coming of age story set in the 1970s. A story of broken friendships and first loves. Very entertaining and a very quick read.
I will be looking for Blau's next (second) book. This was a great read!

It was the title of this book that led me to pick it up while browsing at Borders, I have to admit. But this turned out to be a great book!
Jamie's parents are far from traditional, 70s hippies hosting naked swim parties, smoking pot,and letting their 14- and 16-year-old daughters do pretty much anything they want, without curfews or limits. Their daughters are more responsible than they are, and long for a "normal" family.
This is the story of Jamie's first boyfriend, her deteroriating relationship with her best friends, and Jamie's changing place in her family. A great coming-of-age story, with lots of teenage angst, sexual awakenings, and parties on the beach.
A quick, easy read - not laugh-out-loud funny, but you'll definitely be amused by Jamie's parents and their hippie behavior.
And, if you grew up in late 70s Southern California, you'll appreciate the references to local culture. :)

I really enjoyed this read. we all have had a summer that we will remember far more than others. This is a darling story of the summer that Jamie will not forgeo--naked swim parties, tanning, cigarettes, and sex. I'd reccommend this read to anyone who would like to go back to that summer and relive those times again--it's all here in the novel and it is well written--make you cry and laugh.
