Thoroughly enjoyable story with strong characters, great back stories, even the minor characters are complete. Loved this book so much that I went into Book two of the series immediately after finishing this one and I'm chomping at the bit for Book 3. In fact, I want to move there right away.
Three daughters are worried about their father, who seems to be forgetting things, they fully believe he should be in a facility that is able to care for him. Their father and they have suffered the loss of wife and mother and none of them are doing well in their own lives. They truly get scared when they find out that he has sold the family home and bought a summer camp on an island - he thinks its the summer camp of his youth and it is the very place that he met their mother.
What happens to all four of them and the oldest daughters son is a crazy whirlwind of adjustments, expectations realized and lost and an island of locals that don't want them there.
A wonderful story to get lost in. I couldn't recommend this book and series more highly. If 2020 is getting you down, this is the book to escape it for a little while.

Really, really good story with compelling characters. Highly recommended!
What a fun book! Whenever I pick up a book by Ms. Fisher I know I will enjoy it!
Since his wife passed away, Paul Grayson not on struggles with what to do with his future, but missing his daughters and the family connection they shared. He comes up with (what he feels) is not only a brilliant, fulfilling idea, but something that will bring his family back together. He buys Camp Kicking Moose on the coast of Maine which gives him 51 % ownership of an island! The purchase is sight unseen with only the memories of how it used to be when he met his wife there.
His three daughters upon hearing the news are not as excited as Dad. They think he has lost his mind and even more so when they see the camp! All the sisters' relationships have drifted apart. Different isn't an adequate word to describe their pursuits, personalities and quirks. Now Dad throws this into the mix. They travel to the camp on their fathers' insistence at which point they are SURE he is mentally unstable! The cabins and buildings have disintegrated, the caretaker's home is in need of huge repairs and the few inhabitants are unhappy about the new owner. These modern sisters cannot even fathom poor internet and cell phone connections, not to mention the rustic accommodations.
As this dysfunctional family is confronted with changes, situations and choices they never dreamed of, they do what most people do, fight it on every level. But as this mountain they deem as a nightmare does not budge, things begin to happen within them. The girls are force to slow down and detach from their crazy lives causing them to have a different view of what's important, who is important, and what they really want to do with their futures. These transitions are inspiring to the reader. It reminds me of how we can all be blinded to and trapped in day to day life forgetting to allow God to speak and guide us. It made me long for a quieter simpler time and place. Don't get me wrong the book isn't all seriousness. There was lots of humor! The vomiting cat had me in stitches! I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

On a Summer Tide is the first book in the charming new Three Sisters Island series. The book contains believable, frustrating and lovable characters. Camden, Maddie and Blaine are Paul Grayson's three daughters who act like typical siblings (lots of bickering). The girls have not been as close since their mother passed away and Paul wants to find a way to fix it. I thought On a Summer Tide was well-written as are all of Suzanne Wood Fisher's novels. This story, though, is refreshingly different. It moves along at a good pace and has smooth transitions. While the focus of the story is on Camden, we interact with Paul, Blaine, Maddie, and the townspeople as well. The town contains a variety of quirky characters with my favorite being Peg Legg who owns the Lunch Counter and General Store on the island. She provides plenty of levity and I enjoyed the interactions between her and Paul. There are inserts that take readers back into Camden's growing up years. We see how the past influenced her life choices. In addition, we get to see how her mother passed away and how Camden came to raise Cooper. I found On a Summer Tide to be a compelling story. The book touches on serious topics in a gentle way so that the story never feels heavy or depressing. There is a touch of romance that is sweet. I like the discussions of faith and the island's church services. There are two phrases from On a Summer Tide that I want to share with you. The first is âone man's insanity is another man's geniusâ and âlife is full of simple miracles if you just open your eyes to themâ. I look forward to the next book in the Three Sisters Island series. You will find yourself drawn into On a Summer Tide and not want to put it down. Do not miss out on this entertaining and thoughtful new novel by Suzanne Woods Fisher.
