Dear Darynda Jones,
Thank you for telling us such entertaining stories and creating such wonderful characters. I'd give anything for a bestie like Cookie, and pals like Charlie's. It was amazing ride. I could always count on Charlie for over the top hilarity, and outrageous dialog. You made me laugh, you made me cry, you made me want to stab things. So thanks for all the fun.
Have I kissed your ass enough yet?
I hope so, cause I'm all out of nice.
(Warning. Spoilers below)
What I really want to know is: what the Hell were you thinking?
Cause this is what it felt like to me:
The fans love Reyes and Osh and Garrett. So this time they will seldom speak. They will rarely be seen and do as little as possible.
I have too many great characters â Kill most of them off. Needlessly, just to made people sad not because it adds anything germane to the story.
And while I'm at it I'll have a celestial lion shred Charlie for little or no discernible reason, cause lions are awesome and who doesn't like a little bloodshed?
I need an obscure clue â let's dredge up some stuff with Charlies mom cause I have ignored her all this time. Oh! and that gives me an excuse to screw with Uncle Bob's character. Annnnd it lets me do a bunch of crap with him that I didn't bother to setup during any of the preceding TWELVE books Awesomesauce!
And while I'm on a roll let's kill Jemma cause why the hell not?
And since all but two of Charlie's relatives are now dead let's send her and Reyes to another plane of existence instead of letting them be a family with Beep, cause that will give everyone warm fuzzies.
Seriously, what made that sound like a good idea? Yah we read it, yes it was entertaining. But was it satisfying? Hell No. Mostly what I feel is sad and ripped off, and not at all interested in Beeps story. Especially if it takes 13 books to tell a story that would have been better told in 8 or 10.
