Vampires do exist, at least that's what Bentley Little would have you believe. He depicts an absolutely terrifying new view of what this famous supernatural creature could be, however only from the viewpoint of the victims unlucky enough to be in its presence. A wonderful book with chinese legents, religous symbols and fake idols. A great summer read.

Darkness is descending on the small town of Rio Verde, Arizona. An evil older than time is rising from the desert, waiting for the night to fall and a reign of terror to begin...
Brad Woods had performed a lot of autopsies, but never one like this. The body was purged of all blood. And something told Brad this was only the beginning of a nightmare.
Fear made Sue Wing run from the darkened school that night, fear she could only name in the Cantonese of her grandmother: Cup-hu-girngsi...corpse-who-drinks-blood....
Vampires. The devil, incarnate, stalking the streets of Rio Verde. Small-town reporters like Rich Carter didn't believe in such things. But he would come to believe with a faith borne of horror after horror...

One of my favorite Bentley Little books - great if you love a good vampire novel.

First time reading of any Bentley Little novel and enjoyed. Already ordered several more of his books.
Pretty dang good vampire book. Prepare to be freaked out by some of the crazy things that go on in this book.
Compared to some other modern-day vampire novels, the vampire in this one has to be one of the most evil characters I've read. It is a unique take on the vampire genre, very different than 'Salem's Lot (King) or They Thirst (McCammon). Those looking for a more "traditional" vampire novel may be disappointed.
Very good, very Bentley. If you like his books, you will like this one. Not a fast read. Worth the time.
Somewhat scary tale with a Chinese vampire as a twist to the vampire legend. The book though is too fantastic; that is, it doesn't make the characters and plot realistic. The vampire's plan for dominion doesn't make sense. Nor does Sue's (the heroine) claim that all vampires are of the Chinese kind and need to be kept away with jade. Crosses just don't make it; neither does garlic. That's replaced by willow tree branches. No thought is given to all the books & movies written where crosses and garlic work. If this had been another type creature besides a vampire and if both the Chinese symbols and Western ones worked together this book would have been more realistic and even scarier. The characters suffer from denial which is common in horror books. However, in this book the denials don't make sense. Plus some of the characters go quickly from denial to action against the vampire. Despite all these faults, it's still a scary book and guaranteed to shake you up on a rainy, windy night.
Rivoting from the first page to the last.
Vampires...eveil comes to a small ARizona town and leaves bodies drained of blood...a good read!!
Nobody brings the fear like Bentley Little. The Summoning is a chilling a page turner and if you're a Bentley fan like me, you'll find it's one of his best. If you like this one try THE RETURN, THE WALKING, and THE STORE. Hmmm...these titles are starting to show a pattern.
VERY GOOD
