The basic idea is that Toni Bentley finds God (or at least a spiritual awakening) through anal sex. It's fun, short, and sometimes sexy. Like all memoirs it's hard to tell fact from fiction in this one. Toni raises some interesting questions about sexuality and spirituality.
This book is, quite simply, about anal sex and one woman's experience of the divine via anal sex. For myself, it didn't hold my attention because there wasn't enough depth and anal sex just isn't my end all (no pun intended) be all. As others have said, if you are offended by frank and open discussion about sex, this isn't the book for you. I would disagree that it's 'smutty'. I didn't think it was smutty, just honest and about sex.
It wasn't my favorite book but if you're a lover of anal sex and submission, this might be the book for you.

"erotic memoir" ie. existential ramblings about anal sex

Finally, a frank book about female sexuality! Toni Bentley writes about her sexual odyssey and its culmination -- an obsessive affair with a man who introduced her to the joys of sodomy -- with freshness, honesty and a remarkable lack of bashfulness. The book is very sexy, and at times absolutely hilarious. Not for the easily offended: Bentley not only calls a sexual spade a spade, she takes potshots at the opposite sex, the dating scene, anti-sodomy laws in various American states and, last but not least, herself. A page-turning gem.

I honestly found this book rather silly. Yes, it's "smutty," and I wasn't at all offended by it -- it's quite graphic, so if that bothers you, you won't want to read it -- but I didn't find it very erotic. The writing is good overall, but I thought that she took herself way too seriously in much of this book. It's entertaining, and at times amusing, but that's about it.
This is the worst book I have ever read.
I was a great book!!!!!!!! If you like trashy books you will love it.
Very trashy and easy read. I surely didn't think it was the greatest book in the world but it was quick and amusing. If you are easily offended by vulgar language and sexual details, this isn't the book for you.
Boring! It it no more erotic than brushing my teeth.
Very well written, but quite frank. Don't read if you are easily offended or one bit shy about sex. The story is one woman's emotional and spiritual journey - sex was the particular path she was on during this time. I found it inspiring and poignant and brave.
I thought this was an interesting memoir.
