I made it through about half of this book before I started to lose interest. The characters through the beginning were compelling and well-written; the situations believable and at times even heart-wrenching. Roughly half way through the book circumstances start to get graphically difficult for the heroine, enough that I felt uncomfortable with her circumstances. I have no trouble with graphically portrayed emotion and realism, but the activities bordered on my definition of rape and at that point I really couldn't read with much objectivity. I wanted a happy ending. It had one, but a compromised one in my book because the heroine went with her kidnapper. I'll be hard pressed to read any additional books in this series.
Helpful Score: 1
Bizarre book for me. I didn't feel the love between the H and h. Weird sexual scenes, weren't exciting or beautiful just weird. Just didn't feel any connection with any of the characters, primary or secondary.
It started off really good, with Elena's husband selling her into slavery to pay off his debts, but so much time was spent on describing her experiences and adjustments to her new life in the harem it quickly became tedious. I skimmed the rest of the story (I sure don't like to do that but reading through it was more frustrating), nor was I impressed with the ending. Blah. 2 stars.
I didn't like this book at all. I was dissatisfied with the ending. I skimmed much of the book and then wished I had just quit. Disappointing!
I was looking forward to the books by Tiffany Clare, heard some good reviews. Very disappointed. The story premiss was good, but the story felt like you were trying to walk up a hill in mud. I liked the detail of the Harem and traditions, I just didn't think it was ever going to end.The beginning was good, but all the book did was go from Junai thoughts to Griffins thoughts, all it did was fill up pages. It didn't have any flow. I was sad that Lisa Kleypas would give her approval, I really like her writing. I started to read Clare's book Secret Desires of a Governess, I'm to chapter 2 and bored.
Got about 70 pages into it and couldn't get over how annoying the heroine was. She just didn't seem like she could adjust to her situation at all. Instead of being enjoyable, the story just became tedious. Had purchased the second book in the series... returned it and got a refund.
this is not your typical whimsical light romance, darker side of culture & era
