This is book one, and i found it very interesting, I even purchased book 2 and 3 new, but never finished book 3.
Humans are part of a network of aliens, using technology built by a far older race, that no one really understands. Something destroyed that older network, and it might be back.

Loved it! It is hard to put any of Czerneda's books down! She has created a completely different world from the Trade Pact Universe with some fabulous characters and breathtaking adventures.

I liked what I read on the back cover, and enjoyed the early part of the book in which Our Heroine was just an avid, almost single-minded marine scientist, with all sorts of advanced tools to help study the marine life of the US Northwest coast. Then an alien comes to observe the work, people start dying, and I found myself beginning to lose interest and the thread of the story. I confess I didn't finish the last few chapters, just skimmed them. There are sequels, but I'm not interested.
well written start of a series with plenty of aliens and action
Senior co-administrator of the Norcoast Salmon Research Facility, Dr. Mackenzie Connor-Mac to her friends and colleagues-was a trained biologist whose work was her life. And working at the Base, set in an ideal location just where the Tannu River sped down the west side of the Rocky Moutains to the Pacific Coast, was the perfect situation for Mac. She and Dr. Emily Mamani were just settling in to monitor the year's salmon runs when their research was interrupted by the unprecedented arrival of Brymn, the first member of the Dhryn race to ever set foot on Earth.
