Ninth in the series and another excellent entry, although there is little mystery element here. We know who the bad guy and where he is, it's just a question of whether Sir Robert can find and then deal with him. Liked the subplot with Sgt Dodd and his wife Janet's solution to keeping her land if Dodd is really dead. I found the scenes in the mine, with Sir Robert chasing Hochstetter, very tense. I'm continually impressed at how good Chisholm is at showing just how hard and uncomfortable life must have been at that time and place, even if you were relatively well-off.
