An epic of being an outcast along the river in Knoxville, Tennessee during the 50,s. Poor, black, white, drunkard, crazy, etc. they all come to Mccarthys attention. His descriptive style will have you scratching your head at times, well it did me, but keep with it and it kind of lures you along page by page. Not for the "quick reads" types! this is a serious book, BOOK>

Got through 80 pages of this dreary portrait of a dedicated ne-er-do-well in 1950s Knoxville before I gave up. It was such a downer that I just couldn't force myself to finish it, despite -- or perhaps because of -- McCarthy's powerful writing.

Deep, dark mythic tale of river life in the deep south.

I did not care for this book. It had a lot of weird characters, a lot of words that I had to look up in the dictionary. If you are into lots of descriptions and a lot of characters then this is the book for you. I have read several of his books, but this one just didn't do anything for me.Every book is not going to appeal to everyone.
