Okay, all of the reviews I have read on this have been from the ladies, so I guess there has to be a first for the guys. LOL I know I am not the ONLY guy that has read it. :) Anyway, this book is not for one with a soft heart; then again, maybe it is. This story is basically about four people, Suzanne, Nicholas, Matt, and last, but certainly not least, Katie. It is a love story, a story about what's important in life, and about how most of us tend to take the important things, or people, for granted, and concentrate on the things which are secondary. Before you know it, what you truly hold dear is gone before you know it. I won't tell you GUYS to grab a box of Kleenex when you read it, but let's just say you are dead if the story doesn't touch you. (Okay, grab the Kleenex, I won't tell) A wonderful story that makes me want to end up being more like Matt every day.

It'll bring you to tears. Surprisingly, this book is written by a man, from a woman's standpoint and very poingnant. I couldn't put it down until I'd read it all.

I think I actually love this book. What a wonderful story, although heartbreaking for parents to read. I would consider the ending surprising, although I never see anything coming in stories! Great read, again, by James Patterson!

I found this to be an excellent and quick read. It contained a complex story that kept the reader guessing until the end. It pulled your heart in different directions as you tried to figure out how you felt about each of the characters. If you liked "Sundays at Tiffanys" and "Sam's Letters to Jennifer", this will be another book you will enjoy. However, if you haven't, you can make this book your first and become hooked on James Patterson. I've recently only began to read James Patterson and am impressed with the variety of books that he writes. If you haven't tried him out, you should give his books a try.

Picked this book up a few years ago in an airport to pass the time on a flight to New Orleans. Looked like a complete JACK*** because I was crying on the plane. Incredibly moving, wonderful story...(Probably best read at home with a box of kleenex, instead of in public with 200+ pairs of eyes wondering what the Hell is wrong with you). :) Highly recommended.

A sweet book. After reading all the reviews, I expected a real tearjerker. It was predictable to me. Not the great love story that I thought it would be. One of the main reasons I read it was I wanted to see the movie, so I figured I would read it first. Now I'm not sure I want to see the movie. Just didn't move me like I had hoped.

Who was Nicholas? And why had Matt sent her this diary? Her fingers were trembling as she opened the diary to its first page...

It sounds intriguing, maybe I'll read it before someone requests it. This book was passed on to me by a friend. Her response to it was lukewarm. It was given to her by her daughter. She really didn't care for it.

If you're looking for typical James Patterson fare, keep looking. When I read this book I was amazed that it was written by the same James Patterson who writes the books of mystery, intrigue, murder, and crime... How someone can transition from that genre to this is mind boggling to me. He's truly just a gifted author to be able to write so well in both genres.

This is just the sweetest story... Well, actually bittersweet. If you can get through this without feeling some tugs at your heartstrings, well then, I think just a tiny piece of your soul might be missing.

If you like this book, you'll like Sam's Letters to Jennifer, also by Patterson. It's sort of like a Nicholas Sparks novel, only (in my own opinion) better written, (and I like a good Nicholas Sparks every so often).

You know, I just listed Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas and Sam's Letters to Jennifer on my PBS booklist, but I think I need to read then both again before someone requests them.

I have to say that this book really took me by surprise! The fact that JAMES PATTERSON is known for his wonderful work in the genre of "thrillers" and that
this book is a "love story" that is so deep and so filled with very raw emotions
was such a departure from Patterson's usual writing. If you want to read a
good romantic story that is a very quick read and will have you in tears by the
time you are thru you really should get this book ! I give it 5 stars.

When I picked it up, I thought I would love it. Didn't. For some reason I just couldn't connect. Usually I'm a sucker for weepy love stories. I only read the beginning and then jumped to the end to see if my guess was right. It was. I very rarely give up on a book. To be fair, maybe I just didn't read far enough into the story to get caught up in it. But the beginning irritated me for some reason.

Id give this book the Thumper Award but I actually finished it so I guess Im forced to state my feelings for it. Pathetically thin plot, Id figured it out by the end of the second chapter. Oh, and the red herring he used to boost the suspense, the extra Matt, pit-tee-ful, absolutely pitiful. Was this book a poke at the Nicholas Sparks novels (the ill-fated love, North Carolina, beaches, a tear jerker)? If so it failed miserably. Im sorry not a tear shed unless for the waste of my time, and I cry when I watch reruns of the Waltons and little House on the Prairie even the reruns that Ive seen a gazillion times. This book was a smack in the face to lovers of Pattersons novels. And Ive read them all, from the murder mysteries to the YA books, page turners that made his books an auto buy for me. Not so anymore, JP. All I can say is I doubt JP put much more time in the writing of this book than I did the reading of it and I bet hes laughing all the way to the bank. Luckily, this book was lent to me so I cant complain about the money spent on it, only the time. I actually am quite surprised at how strongly I feel about this book. It totally offends me as a woman and a reader. Oh, and I heard it compared to the paper-thin story better suited for Mills and Boon type authors- are you f*** kidding, they have much higher expectations of their writers than this drivel. Normally, Id probably wait a day or two before posting a negative review of this magnitude (usually Ill at least sleep on it) but after realizing that at least a third of the Amazon reviewers felt the same way, nah I cant see it getting any better. The cover was pretty though.

James Patterson was obviously having an identity crisis when he wrote this book....as in confusing himself with Nicholas Sparks.

It's not a bad book, but it's not what you expect from James Patterson, either.

katie has found her perfect man at last. he's a writer, an original thinker-everything she's imaginaed she wanted in a partner. But one day, without explanation, he disappears from her life, leaving behind only a diary for her to read.
This diary is a love letter written by a new mother named Suzanne. In it she pours out her heart about how she and her child's father met, about her hopes for marriage and family, about the joy of having a baby brought into her life. As katie reads this touching document, it becomes clear that the lover that has just left her is the husband and father in this young family. se reads on, filled with terror and hope, as she struggles to understand what has happened-and whether her new love has a prayer of surviving.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It was very emotional. I was literally sobbing by the end.

I felt I knew most of the characters in this book by the end, proving Patterson is a wonderful writer. I connected to Suzanne and Matt and their love for each other and for their son.

I didn't quite seem to know what to think of Katie. I didn't feel like I knew enough about her to feel bad for her when she got dumped by Matt. I was constantly comparing her (Matt's girlfriend) to Suzanne (Matt's wife) and sometimes it was difficult to really feel bad for Katie, dispite the constant interjections about her life and her feelings in the story. I guess I was a little upset the she though Matt was cheating on his wife with her. She knew he had a wife and she still got with him.

In the end I guess Katie was redeemed, however I still felt uneasy with her. The story makes you learn to love Matt, but Katie is a different story, I guess that's why I only gave it four stars!

This book is emotional and really expresses the love of most of the characters. It's a quick read so there's no reason not to read it! :)

This is a real departure from Patterson's lively crime novels! He proves that he has a sensitive side in this well-told tale of two women--Katie and Suzanne--in love with the same man. The book moves back and forth from excerpts in a diary that Suzanne has written for her son Nicholas, to chapters from the perspective of Katie. It's carefully crafted and sweetly unfolds. Great story!

Drawn against her will into the other woman's world, Katie learns of physician Suzanne's heart attack at age 35 and her decision to slow down, accomplished by a move to Martha's Vineyard and a new job as a simple country doctor. When love comes knocking, in the form of housepainter-cum-poet Matt Harrison, Suzanne is ready to listen to her newly repaired heart. Though painful for Katie, she begins to know and like Suzanne and her infant son Nicholas. Suzanne's devotion to Matt and their son shines through, as well as her plainspoken wisdom. While the journal helps Katie understand Matt, whether they can write a future together remains in question. --Alison Trinkle--

This may not be the worst book I've ever read, but it's a close second. The writing is poor (think Bridges of Madison County), the storyline is extremely contrived, and the characters are nearly as unbelievable as the situations they find themselves in. It's emotionally manipulative, and overly maudlin. I know there are many who loved this book, so it may appeal to fans of certain genres or authors.

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. Paper should be mad that it was used to publish this book. It is full of ridiculous pop culture references. Patterson has no skills for writing a woman's voice. It's appalling that he thinks a parent would include some of the information in the "diary" for a child. The book is an embarrassment. But that's just my opinion!
