I never thought I'd see the day that I came across a Maya Banks novel I didn't enjoy. Well I did indeed come across it in Sweet Persuasion. I give this on 2 stars (2.5 just on the basis of Julie). In my opinion, this bdsm story bordered more on the hulmilation side for my liking. I found myself wanting to skip all the Serena/Damon scenes to read the scenes of the minor characters. So I guess this book would have rated higher with me if you cut out the two main characters. I know this is book 2 in the series, but in my opinion it's definitely worth skipping and going on to the next book in the series, Sweet Seduction (Sweet, #3)(Julie and Nathan). Hopefully it will rate higher.

I haven't decided if I can recommend this one or not. I have read, and enjoyed, other books by Maya Banks. But this one had a couple of things that I just couldn't see happening. For one thing, the main character, Serena, told her new Dom that she couldn't call him "Master" because it "seems silly". Yet she had no problem calling another guy "Keeper". And what was really surprising was that the Dom refused to let her have a "safe word". I could understand if they were in a long-term, experienced relationship, but Serena was looking to fulfill a fantasy for the FIRST time. Sure, she agreed, but no "safe word" for a newbie? Disturbing.

I just finished this book. Loved it! It was in my TBR for a while. I wasn't sure I wanted to read any Maya Banks books for a while because I read a so many in a row and some of the reviews were not glowing endorsements. I had to read this one because someone won it fom me in a "TBR list" Swap Game. I am glad I did. I loved it. I'm going to read the first one in the series today. I really enjoyed all the characters. They were well developed. Not sure her job was realistic. His job(s) was unclear too. Owner of a sex club + ?. I liked them and their story. Oh, there was a safe word. "NO" was the safe word. Not the best safe word but he didn't like games where "No means yes", I guess.

This is my first book by Maya Banks, I never knew that such erotic romances existed. I mean I have heard/seen things in sex stores, but they were too vulgar and graphic for me. Sadly I did not realize that Sweet Persuasion is book #2 in a "Sweet..." series that Maya Banks is writing. I would of loved to have read book #1 "Sweet Surrender" first, but having not read it did not take away from the story itself. The characters in Sweet Persuasion were well build and were able to stand on their own. The main character, Serena, wants to fulfill one of her deepest darkest fantasies, being a sex slave. Although there are times when she is hesitant about complying to her "masters" wishes she does as is asked of her. What should be a casual non-permanent arrangement soon turns into more and both Serena and her "master" Damon realize that they in fact want more from each other. I would highly recommend reading this book to anyone, it kept my attention from start to finish and i read it all in a day!
