This book was hard to put down. Based on facts recorded in diaries, it tells the story of the people who first settled the area of Seattle, WA The main character Louisa is a strong and beautiful young woman who knows what she wants and is willing to work and wait in order to get it. One of the best books I've read lately.
This ISBN relates to the Hardcover editition as well.
This is the first of 6 novels by Wilbee. They are "creative nonfiction" of early Seattle, told mainly through the viewpoint of Louisa Boren Denny, the young woman who laid the city's first foundation. The author read hundreds of books, pioneer diaries and scrapbooks in order to retell an accurate history in dramatic form. There is a bit of romance thrown in as well.
