Issues with adding tags --

-- can we not use more than ten tags?  I know I used to be able to add 12 or 14 per book.
-- some tags not allowed?  I tried multiple times to add ' US Marshall Service'  as the first tag. Then later tried to add ' drug use'. Neither of these will 'save'.

I had 312 tags and just added another one a few minutes ago making it 313, with no probems.

I've found certain words or letter combinations won't go through. I played with your tag, and found  I could add "Marshall Service"  (British spelling) "Marshal Service" (American spelling) and "United States Marshal Service" / "United States Marshall Service", if that helps.

"Drug abuse" works, but not "Drug use".

Play with your wording a bit, and you can often find something that will work. There's no limit to how many tags you can add.

Several years ago, a bunch of problem words were blocked, including swear words and insults. I find that sometimes if a letter combination is part of a blocked word, I have to find a work-around.

"right 2 vote" works

"Women's movement" worked for me

Queen Elizabeth 1 (with a numeral) and Queen Elizabeth the First both work

If you have tag with 2 or more words that won't "take", try the words individually, and you'll see which word is causing the problem. Then you can figure out an alternate tag.

Won't let me add ' coming of age' for the book ' The Body' by Stephen King ( book that is the basis for the movie ' Stand by Me'....such  a good title compared to the book title!). I tried typing it in myself and choosing from the drop down menu, but no go. 4 attempts failed.

Ok, thanks!

--so weird that even tags that are in drop down menu won't save.

What you're seeing is your browser offering you stuff you've typed before. The site doesn't have a drop-down menu for tags.

Nope, it does......you can type one word and the drop down will show from several options up to 6 or 8 and shows how many times the tag has been used on the site, sometimes up to 1000 uses! I've hardly used any of the ones that show up in the drop down menus.

If a tag won't "take", it has a word or combination of letters in it that are blocked because those letters are in a word that has been blocked. I don't have the list, but I can see that, for example, the word "damage" is blocked, probably because people were posting unpostable books and tagging them "water damage". If you try to add the tag "water damage", it won't take, but it will show you that there's one book with that tag. (If I recall, there used to be a lot of them, but Admin must have removed them.) The existing one would have been added before the filter went into effect, so that option still shows when you try to add the tag.

In playing with the feature just now, I can see that Admin has refined the feature since it was first put in place. There are tags I can add now that I couldn't add before. For example "architecture" used to be blocked because the word "ARC" was blocked, but that's been fixed.

So first, if a tag I want to add is blocked, I figure out which word is the culprit, and try to find a good alternative tag. But at one point, I made a short list of what I felt were essential tags that were being blocked and asked Admin if they could allow them. It took a week or two -- I'm guessing a programmer had to get to it -- but they did. So you could try that.

Thanks Patty.
'Coming of age' won't work for me though there appears to be plenty of earlier uses of it. Now system wants to only approve 'coming-of-age'.

"Age", without the hyphen, is the problem, for some reason.
