What a book! I thought this would not be my cup of tea, but boy, was I wrong! This book is such a page-turner you can not put it down. Holly Barrett meets the elusive Jack Dane on Cape Cod, and they fall madly in love. Jack is very tight-lipped about his childhood in England but seems ideal in every other aspect. Holly, as a single mom, is very protective of her little child and has the support of her retired dad who lives nearby. This novel's theme is, is what you see what you get? The riveting denouement is a complete shocker. Spoiler alert: Do NOT read the author's discussion questions at the end of the book BEFORE you finish the novel!
I initially thought this might be an average chick lit book, but it developed into a fairly good suspense novel. However, I found it difficult to believe that any caring mother would not be alarmed at the very clear "red flags" and protect her child accordingly. I also had to suspend disbelief at how quickly the romance developed and then went to marriage since Holly was a prudent, thoughtful woman with a child to consider. Also, how could so much activity take place in the middle of the night without Holly eventually realizing it?
