A really good collection of tales set in Asprin and Abbey's THIEVES' WORLD. Stories by Philip Jose Farmer, David Drake, Lynn Abbey, A.E. van Vogt, Janet Morris, Andrew Offutt, Robert Asprin, and an essay: 'The Lighter Side of Sanctuary.'

I love Asprin's Thieves World books. It was a unique idea. Provide a bunch of different authors a setting in which to set their stories, and even allow them to borrow characters from each other, and let them rip! Essentially, it a group of short stories that takes place in Sanctuary, which contrary to its name suggest, is not a place you want to be. If you find some writing slow, you can always skip to the next story, but all the stories are entertaining and provide enough variation to keep the reader's attention. This is book 2, so you might want to read book 1 first.

Thieves' World is on of my favorite anthologies. This, the second book in the series, contains stories from several popular SF/F writers. I think I would have enjoyed the book more, if one of the authors hadn't been Philip Jose Farmer, who IMHO is far too descriptive, which tends to bury the story under so much fluff (which is why I was never able to get through his RIVERWORLD series).

This is a great tragic/comedic series written as kind of a lark for major SF/Fantasy authors.
