Again, Kent is at his best with Tamarack County. Kent doesn't use a lot of filler words to get to the story in the first few chapters by describing everyone and everything. Kent is able to describe the setting by jumping right into the plot. I already crave book 14 in the "Cork O'Connor" series. Kent's continuing story never grows old like many series I have read and given up on.
I've been following this Cork O'Connor series, always enjoying reading about Minnesota and it's harsh winters along with the adventures of the ex sheriff, now a Private Investigator.. This book had it's flaws (at least for me), Annie's story is not appealing nor believable and there's just too much Indian mysticism and emphasis on religion for my taste. .
Excellent series!!

William Kent Krueger has brought to us another winner in this book. I love when Cork O'Conner has obstacles that come into his life and he is able to show us how to overcome them. These characters feel so real that the reader can actually feel everything they are going through. In this book, Annie, one of Cork's daughters, arrives home from the nunnery early for a Christmas break. She is really troubled and Cork is trying to find out what is going on in her life. His son, Stephen, has a new girlfriend and is helping them with problems that have come into their lives. When Stephen's life end up hanging in the balance, Cork is somewhat beside himself. While trying to cope with all of this, Henry, Cork's spiritual Indian friend, shows up and comforts him. There are other plots running through the book but these are the ones that really kept me wanting more of the story. If you haven't started this series, I suggest you do, but you need to start with the first book in order to get the background of these characters. I'm anxiously looking forward to reading the next book in order to see how all these situations have panned out for the future of these characters. I would highly recommend reading this series to those who love mystery thrillers that help you cope with life's problems.
Applause Applause William Kent Krueger you have outdone yourself once again!! I have enjoyed and cherished all of your books, but this one is special!! Just when you thought that the previous adventures, tragedies, and events for the Cork O'Connor family have subsided and passed, the devil himself jumps up and threatens the family again. What an amazing ride this books was and I enjoyed every minute, not wanting it to end. I have come to love and know the characters and the surrounding area of fictional Aurora, MN just as much as I cherish the bonds and relationships that have grown with characters in each addition to the series of the books. The old mide Henry Meloux is back along with all of your other favorites and this adventure for me was not only spectacular with each turn of the page, I also have come away with some answers for myself in my own life, even found myself tearing up reading a few chapters. If you haven't come to know the expert writing of William Kent Krueger, I suggest picking up the first in the series "Iron Lake" and then settle in for some of the best mysteries ever penned-hands down my favorite author. What's next in the series I simply can't wait!!!
