Good, but not the best in the series. After reading about Tess and Annabel - it was hard for me to actually like Imogen. But I can't wait for Josie's story.

When I first started reading this series, I couldn't believe that the author was going to pair up Imogene with Rafe. I did not like her and it took awhile for me to warm up to her. But in reading it saw that she is exactly the type of woman that Rafe needed. I enjoyed their banter... I enjoyed their arguments. They are literally perfect for each other. Having read all of the sisters' stories, this is my favorite.

I like this author a lot, but this book's hero is a real stand out. I am dazzled that a romance author so bravely and sympathetically navigates the issue of alcoholism.

Imogen, Lady Maitland, has decided to dance on the wild side. After all, she's in the delicious position of being able to take a lover. A discreet male who knows just when to leave in the morning.
But Lady Maitland is still under the watchful eye of her former guardian, the wildly untamed Rafe, the Duke of Holbrook. He believes she is still in need of a "watchdog." She laughs at the idea that someone so insufferably lazy and devoted to drink can demand that she behave with propriety.
It's Rafe's long-lost brother, a man who looks precisely like the duke but with none of his degenerate edge, who interests Imogen. To Imogen, he's the shadow duke ... The man who really should hold the title. But when Imogen agrees to accompany Gabe to a masquerade ... whose masked eyes watch her with that intense look of desire? Who exactly is she dancing with? The duke or the shadowduke? Rafe ... or Gabe?
-- In writing this blurb, I almost want to reread this romance! --

I have very much enjoyed this series and Rafe is indeed my favorite character in the series. I just love him . . . he caught my heart back in the beginning of the series when he first stood in the nursery showing off the rocking horses he had purchased for the little lasses that we're now his wards. That said, I didn't like Rafe's story quite as much as the previous two books although he still remains my favorite hero of the series so far. As a stand-alone book I'm not sure how much I would have enjoyed this story as part of the series I thought it was good (not great).
I can't wait to start the next one . . . happy reading!
