A light fun read, which I finished in the course of an evening (but I do read pretty quickly). Lots of laughs and an ending I didn't expect. I'm looking forward to starting the next one I can find in this series!

The "Hemlock Falls" mysteries are very well written with just enough humor and intrigue to keep you turning the pages.

First in the series of the Hemlock Falls series and a good cozy mystery.

This series can be read out of order, which is nice because I picked up one of the later books in the series. Going back to read the first book was like visiting a place from childhood that had changed but, in some ways, stayed the same. I love the dynamic between sisters Quill and Meg. Throw in Doreen, the somewhat paranoid religious housekeeper, and a few other members of Hemlock Falls, and you have a very funny and quite pleasant area for "the scene of the crime".

I enjoyed this, the first in the "Hemlock Falls" mystery series.....you are introduced to all the locals and to Sarah and Meg, the owners of the Hemlock Falls Inn, located in upstate New York. Meg is a feisty five star chef whose mood can be evaluated by the color of her socks, and Sarah, who is calmer, the innkeeper. In my addition, there is a list of characters in the front of the book, which I found to be very helpful....I will be reading the next in the series....

A fun mystery...

So well written I felt I was there...and that was the problem. I developed an intense dislike for Quill and Meg, they seemed to have Attention Deficit Disorder and lacked professionalism. I was delighted when 'bad' things happened to them and that defeats the purpose of reading for pleasure. I ended up skimming the last half of the book and it's quite possible my several, miserable years in food service made me dislike this book. I will give this author a try with a different setting.
Meg and Quill try to clear John of murder charges when a guest is crushed to death and a local drowns.

I found this book to be interesting but a few too many characters to keep track of. I am going to read the next book int he series to see if it is better.
I barely made it to through the first page when I decided that this book was not my cup of tea. I am sure there are other people who would enjoy it.
