Superheroes have secret identities. Superheroes have code names. Superheroes have secret hideouts. These tropes have been around at least since Superman's debut long before I was born, and probably much longer than that in some form or another.

Now, add in the fact that you and your friends are teenage runaways â runaways from parents who have turned out to be supervillians who control the underworld You WANT to do good things and help people, but you put a lot at stake by simply emerging from your secure (hopefully) hiding place.

âRunaways: Teenage Wastelandâ not only addresses these issues, but also brings another apparent teenage runaway into the mix. Do they help him? Do they TRUST him? If so, how much trust do they give immediately, and what must he do to gain more?

I've been trying to come up with how to address the issues in that last paragraph without giving away a spoiler, perhaps THE spoiler of the entire 6 issue collection? Suffice to say, there's another comic book trope involved ⦠and writer Brian K. Vaughn and penciler Adrian Alphona manage to work WITHIN the boundaries of it while still introducing not one, but TWO new spins.

Oh, and Marvel's OTHER famous runaways, Cloak and Dagger, make an appearance in this book, as well.

I found myself disappointed in the first 6 issue collection in this series. THIS collection managed to fully redeem itself and not only keep me interested in this series, BUT has me eager to see what the creators have planned next.
