For all of you Janet Evanovich fans, this is a book for you! Cruisie's style of writing in this book is reminiscent of Janet Evanovich, though not quite as edgy.
It was a nice romantic story with a little page-turning mystery thrown in. Light and simple and perfect for a day of relaxation.
Tell Me Lies is the story of Maddie Faraday who, during the course of a clean-out of her husband, Brent's, car, finds a pair of black, crotchless underwear under the seat - and they are not hers! But that situation turns out to be the least of Maddie's problems - throw in an 8-year-old daughter who notices something awry with her parents, as well as two nosy neighbors, a best friend who has a big secret of her own, and gorgeous C.L. Sturgis, the boy who took her virginity 20 years before, back in town trying to get some answers. Oh, and then there's that pesky little murder that really sends Maddie over the edge....
This is a funny story about a marriage gone wrong in the middle of a small town that sees everything. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to finally reading the rest of my Jennifer Crusie collection. If you are looking for something light, yet page-turning, I suggest Tell Me Lies with two thumbs up - and that ain't no lie!

I love Jenny's fast paced and witty dialogue, but something rubbed me the wrong way about this book. I know that this is a work of fiction and people are flawed and make mistakes, yadda yadda, but...I get really irritated when grown ups make poor decisions when kids are involved. The husband is sleeping around and she bones her highschool sweetheart too soon I thought. I like to be courted by an author. I like to establish a relationship with a stories characters. This felt too rushed. Not Crusie's usual good read.

funny, sexy, suspensful novel about small-town secrets, big-time betrayals and the redemptive power of love, laughter and chocolate brownies.

Crusie's patented hot-romance scenes are complicated here by a soon-to-be-ex husband and a vulnerable 8-year-old child. The underlying plot is a bit convoluted, but when the ride is this much fun, who cares?

Very good read! A little hard to get into at first but, worth it in the end!

If you think small-town life can be boring--think again. There are complex social rules: there are certain people with whom you fraternize and those you don't, and, of course, there is the all-powerful gossip. Everyone knows everything about everyone else. Don't they? That's what Maddie Farraday thinks until she finds a pair of black crotchless panties in her husband's car that don't belong to her. That's it; Maddie's had it. She's ready for change, and the first thing she's going to do is divorce her no-good, philandering husband Brent. But then everything goes haywire: Brent turns up dead, Maddie's daughter wants a dog, her best friend is suddenly acting very strange, and Maddie's secret boyhood crush, bad boy C. L. Sturgis, arrives in town after a 20-year hiatus--and he's as sexy as ever. You may laugh out loud at the wild and crazy antics in Jennifer Crusie's exceptional novel, but you'll exclaim with delight over the sizzling, dynamic, passionate affair between Maddie and her first love.

Maddie Martindale has been the nice girl of her small town of Frog Point where gossip is major entertainment. Comfortably, if not happily, married to bigshot Brent, who is running for mayor, and mother to a sweet girl, Maddie seems to have a perfect life. But after she finds crotchless panties in her husband's car, Maddie's pristine reputation unravels. An imminent divorce, her husband's murder, and the precipitate return of Maddie's sexy high school flame, C.L. Sturgis, lead to her quick fall. C.L., the rebel bad boy who never dropped his torch for Maddie, has straightened out handsomely and plays a seductively vital role. The town is agog with talk of Maddie, the adulteress and murderess. An exciting, sensual romp, chock-full of mystery and intriguing characters, this light novel provides hours of fun reading.

another book in the great tradition of Jennifer Crusie...one that will make you laugh...make the sun shine even on an overcast day....maybe chocolate brownies can do it all ! ! !
Helpful Score: 1
Annoyingly zany murder plot that just gets wackier as the book goes on, with not much romantic intrigue as the protagonists get together shortly after the book starts. Too contrived.

very fast reading, can't put it down always wanting to know what comes next.

I liked this book. It has a bit of mystery, alot of romance.....she lives in a small town where everyone knows when something happens.
Funny, Sexy, good mystery! What more can I say...you will just love it. A grandmother that reminded me of the one Janet Evanovich created for Stephanie Plum!
Jennifer Crusie does it again. This is my favorite so far...nice combination of love story and mystery. Very nice, likable characters.
This book was hysterical. It was kind of dark humor. I could not stop laughing.
Very funny. The characters seemed real. More adult situations than I was expecting, had me blushing a little, but I still enjoyed it.
Secrets.Gossip.Lies. In a small town, where your business is everyones elses business, buried truths have a way of finding the light. This author has delivered a deliciously sexy novel about small town life, love, sexs, lies and chocolate.

This was great! I laughed and cried! A great read!
A little too much of explicit sex in this one. Otherwise, a good story.

Love Jennifer Crusie! Witty, entertaining and hard to put down...
Standard chick lit - but entertaining nonetheless.
Started out slow, but once I got into it, was a pretty good book.
Maddie Faraday seems to have the perfect life...until she finds crotchless panties while cleaning her husband's car. Now just 24 hours later with a divorce in the works, neighbor's gossiping, her daughter wondering what is happening, and the return of Maddie's high school boyfriend, C.L. Sturgis, Maddie is the talk of the town. When the police call to tell her that her husband has been found murdered, she is also the number one suspect.
This is a fun book. The story has everything...hot romance, hilarious dialogue and a good mystery. My rating: 5 Stars.

Funny, funny, funny. Jennifer Cruise dishes up romance and suspense about a small town where everyone knows everyones secrets. Maddie Faraday has to deal with a cheating husband, nosy neighbors, a gossipy mom, and a former lover..and that is just the first hour of her day.

Not your everyday romance novel. There were some parts that were rather depressing. Overall a great book.

Raised by her mother to be afraid of what the neighbors and towns people might think, Maddi Faraday has always been the perfect "good" girl of Frog Point. Until she finds some other woman's sexy underpants in her husband's car, and the first man she gave herself to comes back to town.
A funny, sexy, suspenseful novel about small town secrets, big-time betrayals and the redemptive power of love, laughter and chocolate brownies.

But sercets do exist just not on the surface. With the neighbors telling your mother who's parked in your driveway. Your husband having affairs in his cadalic, your high school flame setting your sole a blaze and oh ya, your husband is murdered for the money he stole. Life can be a little less ordinary when you have a loving man and family to support you.
From Kirkus Reviews
A popular paperback author dives headfirst into familiar territory: the mystery romance. On her way to self-actualization and a worthy lover, a small-town girl enters a classic merry chase of general upheaval. It all begins when Maddie Faraday of Frog Point, Ohio--where gossip is the major sport and everyone knows everyone else's business--finds a pair of crotchless black lace underpants under the seat of her husband's Cadillac. Like an Erma Bombeck femme whose personal sphere is defined by fixing her broken microwave and washing her dirty macaroni-and-cheese skillet, Maddie (who calls herself "the perpetual virgin of Frog Point'') has always been a good girl, a good wife, a good daughter, and a good mother to her precious eight-year-old daughter Em. But the discovery of a few triangles of illicit lace begins a weekend that sees the uprooting of Maddie's entire life. Right in the middle of her tumultuous morning, C.L. Sturgis, a "rebel without a clue'' who long ago took Maddie's virginity and has grown up 20 years later into a hot-looking accountant (there's been a dearth of rugged CPAs in recent romance fiction) appears at her door, looking for her husband, Brent. Brent, it seems, is suspected of embezzling a lot of money. Then, as if a bad morning and a marriage spent cleaning up EggMcMuffin wrappers weren't enough, Maddie's car is totalled and she suffers a concussion. Plus which Brent, who's disappointed a whole posse of Frog Pointers, is found shot in the head on a former lovers' lane. The identity of the killer is fairly obvious; somewhat implausibly, Maddie grows estranged from C.L. Still, for lovers of chocolate brownies, fairly explicit sex, and heroines who let it all hang out, an entertaining hardcover debut.

JC at her finest
Different cover but great story, "quirky" and bombshell ending. Super story by a super writer.
The book I have has a different cover but it's the same story. An easy read you'll enjoy.
Library binding. Does show creasing, edgemarks. pg 98 and 99 show a seperation. The pages are fine. I hate tossing any books when pages are ok.
