I won't pretend this wasn't a difficult book for me to read. Expecting a history of the Templars, I was treated to an in-depth history of Christianity and Islam. Perhaps, if I wasn't already knowledgeable in those subjects, I would have found it more interesting. Still, the author did a very good job with his detailed history of those religions, the Templars, the Crusades, and the politics surrounding them.
While telling me more than I really wanted to know, the author did a fantastic job teaching me.

I enjoyed the first section of the book, when the history of the templars were laid out, but the second half was hard to follow.

Read's history is an excellent antidote to the myths and dramatizations that have followed the Templars since the 1300s.
Complrehensive, balanced, and scholarly, Read's history offers a readable and accessible pathway to Templar history.

Actually, I gave this book as a gift to a family member, and they have told me "It is very interesting and enjoyable". We as a family are great fans of the program Oak Island on History channel and consequently, this book is more interesting.
