I loved the beginning. It was original and exciting how the three brothers claimed their inheritance together after a twelve-year absence. The reaction was volatile and realistic and portrayed the eldest son, Sebastian, as very human. However, he was obsessed with his family estate, which distracted him from forming a romantic relationship with Mary until later in the book. I was more interested in the brothers' stories and what happened to them during their separation. However, I have to wait until their stories come out to find out their painful journeys, which sets the stage for the typical family trilogies. Although I don't think this was a complete flop, I still felt it didn't live up to its thrilling prologue and first few chapters. 3.5 stars.
